What's the steam crash error? And a tip to speed up steam is to go to the settings, then internet tab and put your connection speed right up otherwise it caps you at the 56 / 256 etc speeds.I get 250k's on steam when downloading so I don't know what your complaint is.
As for sin, the game was very good and at £10 worth the money. Most PC games here cost £20 at least. When episode 2 comes out it too will be £10. 8 hours is about as long as any other game you can buy really.
Not to mention it gave you sin for free as well as sin multiplayer.
My only gripe with steam is that in 10 years when I want to re-play half life 2, I fear I won't be able to do so because I can't activate it.

By then they will release a tool which will extract the game etc without connecting to the internet.

There are ways to do that now (back up your game) you just can't then unpack it yourself. But to do this will be a pain in the arse when I have a HL2 DVD which I bought. Rendering it pretty much useless now since it contains about 95% of the game. I'm sure fixes will be released too, but it's a lot of hassle and probably too much for me to go through when I can relive my past easier by playing another great game which is piss easy to install such as deus ex.

Let me get this right ....
You are blaming Steam/Valve becaue ..
Quote: | first of all it was a pain in the ass retrieving my steam account name, answer to the question and password. |
you lost your username and password?
Quote: | than updating the game and lastly encrypting this piece of shit.
after about 5 hours of installing |
you have an unreliable/slow internet conncetion?
Quote: | screen switches to "game mode" and than it switches back to desktop |
your computer doesnt work properly?
I guess its always easier to blame someone else for your own faults ...
And like someone said ...

Online distrubution ftw. While i do not agree with Steams method of encryption/decrypting stuff imo. online distrubution is the way to go... if i buy a game i want to be able to "download" it to get it directly insteed of waiting 2-7+ days for the CD/DVD to land in my mailbox ...

Buying a game at half price compared to getting it from a shop makes it a winner for me. The rest are minor things. eg. encryption, which is done only the first time. Too bad only a handful of games are available via steam...
