From their very inception, the next-generation DVD copy protection scheme of AACS encryption and HDCP "protected pathway" hardware has seemed mismanaged, disjointed, and often overtly anti-consumer. The system was developed at the behest of Hollywood studios that have appeared almost desperate to get a piece of the growing HDTV market but loathe to allow potentially pirate-able HD-movie content into the wild, and the uneasy alliance between studios and major electronics manufactures (or at least those that don't own movie studios of their own) has resulted in a long history of half-compromises, delays, and backpedaling.

Yay now i dont have to get switchs for my dvi port!

the fact that the agreement was made in secret further emphasizes the desire of Hollywood studios and consumer electronics manufactures to keep consumers in the dark on the entire issue. Smiling and publicly promising "future-proof" devices on the outside, while ensuring such claims through temporary deals conducted in secret negotiations hardly speaks well of the companies involved.

I agree with these guys completely.

All these fucking companies care about is the bottom line ($$$), and never have any respect for the actual consumers who buy their products.

They don't even respect or care for their employees, so why bother with customers. They have an oligopoly, all they care for is profits and their shareholder value. I bet the real reason why they postponed it is because of the AACS encryption, wich still isn't working properly.

and by 2010 (if not much, much sooner) some whizkid will figure out how to render the entire thing useless and we'll all be able to bypass it completely.
