Yeah I agree, im gonna eat my words in regards to this game.

Didn't expect that much of it but its a huge step forwards for the series in my opinion. The gulf between this game and the original Flatout reminds me of the transition from Burnout 2 to Burnout 3, everything in this sequel just looks so polished in comparison. The game engine looks great for an Xbox title runs smoothly and gives a great sense of speed whilst racing especially when using nitro. Visually it probably ranks alongside Burnout 4 with the added bonus of being able to smash hell out of the tracks, ample use of bloom to hide the cracks and depending on your taste a much better soundtrack again like Burnout 3/4 more mainstream I suppose but still some nice tracks in there.

Generally just a great fucking game, only played 4 of the mini games and a few races but yep great stuff.

Also tryed IHRA, what a piece of crap that game is. Razz

Sad Im glad you lot are happy, however im fecked off with boring racing games on the xbox.. when will devs realise we aint all brainless twats who are happy to go round snd round and round and round and round (you get the idea ) a track/road for hours on end?

Do these games actually sell? if so who to? i mean i can see why buying an rpg/strat/rts game is a good idea.. replayability etc.. but how can anyone get even 1-2 hours pleasure out of a racing game?

However im gonna grab it for my 6 yr old son..(the age group i assume these games are intended for) it takes a good 2 hours before he is bored of racing games Laughing

reg67 'another boring up his own a**e rpg/rts head....oooh let me cast a spell....boring... '(isnt nice if someone disses a genre you like, is it?)....i say each to their own... i would much prefer playing a good racing title (btw most like gt,forza, burnout etc sell in huge numbers) to yet another formulaic rts/rpg, i personally got bored of that sort of thing when i was a teen...

if you dont like race games dont download them....simple...dont slag off anyone who enjoys them

get a life

great game like a mix of flatout1 and burnout...loads to do, great minigames...much better career...really well polished...
been playing for quite a while now, most enjoyable racer since burnout4

Do us a favour fwb73 and don't quote the forum troll - the ignore function doesn't work completely on this board so in quoting him you force me to read the same arsey repetitive comments that this poster persists in making.

yup agree with star.

the game feels polished and well crafted. a step up from last flat out and there just seems to be a good variety of game modes + the car handling feels great once one get a hang of it and the races themselves gets pretty hectic.

the letdowns would be the music and the characters. so "hip and cool". but in reality the opposite.

I was thinking of backing this up and playing it on my 360 until I was told that Xbox 1 backups have to burned on a dual layer dvd to play? Is that true!? Confused

what do you guys think about rubberband ai btw?

the negative would be racing well for 4 laps being 1st and then in the last corner smash into something and having the 2nd, 3rd, 4th placers come with an amzing speed and kill you.

the positive would be that there is barely any dull moments.

nailbiter... agree can be annoying but it does work the other way round... was racing earlier getting my arse kicked all over... in 4th place no hope of catching first 3 but then... first place fecked up 2 and 3 piled into him...next thing you know i fly through the middle of chaos & win.... what a buzz Smile

This is the best racing game I've ever played, total chaos and carnage.

I waited until this year to buy my first XBOX and I'm amazed that an old machine can throw graphics around like this.

In regards to the rubberband AI I think racing games are always going to suffer in that respect. There are very few games which get the AI just spot on to the point where you don't notice it as a problem either because the cars constantly catch up on you even though your putting down hot laps ((like Burnout Revenge)) or on the flipside the other style of AI where opponents appear to have no driving style or personality, just glued to the track going round and round following a set path. I think thats why multiplayer in racing games is so much more fun, comparisons could be made between playing against bots and playing against human opponents on an FPS game.

SSX3 was a game that did a good job with the AI in my opinion, the way you could build up rivalries with other boarders plus the way that the other racers would branch off onto random routes down the tracks. I doubt I would notice much difference playing against human opponents in that title.

You'll know better next time than to wait until a machines near enough dead before buying it, some of the games your probably now playing still look good but just imagine how good they actually looked when they were released all that time back - anyways, enjoy Smile

Funnily enough I see alot of people admitting to having bought an Xbox recently, you know the types the ones that slagged the machine for the past 2 years and all the games as console crap yet now they have one its a different matter. Shocked

I saw that some anonymous person has recreated the .iso of Flatout 2 calling it the "Metal Remix" with the following tracklist in place of Audioslave, Wolfmother et al.

01. All Shall Perish - Laid To Rest
02. All That Remains - And Death In My Arms
03. All That Remains - It Dwells On Me
04. Arch Enemy - Kill With Power
05. Arch Enemy - Symphony Of Destruction
06. Becoming Archetype - Into Oblivion
07. Becoming Archetype - The Epigone
08. Caliban - Song About Killing
09. Caliban - A Summer Dream
10. Children Of Bodom - Hate Crew Deathroll
11. Children Of Bodom - Silent Scream
12. Chimaira - Salvation
13. Dark Tranquillity - The New Build
14. Devildriver - Hold Back The Day
15. Disarmonia Mundi - Last Breed
16. Disarmonia Mundi - Mindtricks
17. Disarmonia Mundi - Mouth For War
18. Finntroll - Eliytres
19. God Dethroned - The Grey Race
20. Heaven Shall Burn - The Weapon They Fear
21. Heaven Shall Burn - Voice Of The Voiceless
22. Illdisposed - Case Of The Late Pig
23. Kataklysm - Crippled And Broken
24. Killswitch Engage - Soilborn
25. Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress
26. Scar Symmetry - Reborn
27. Slayer - Cult (Radio Version)
28. Soilwork - Blind Eye Halo
29. Soilwork - No More Angels
30. The Acacia Strain - Demolishor
31. The Acacia Strain - Predator: Never Prey
32. The Duskfall - Farewell Song
33. The Tenth Circle - Oblivion
34. The Tenth Circle - The Reckoning
35. Various Artists - Roadrunner United - Annihilation By The Hands Of God
36. With Passion - The Last Scripture

is that obscure enough for you Nailbiter? Razz

btw played the PC version the other day......on a PC that can handle the game at high res/max quality settings other than the obvious technical limitations of the Xbox I still stand by what I said. The Xbox game is a solid, great looking version with nothing missing and its no less enjoyable than the PC game - that said never was a graphics whore myself even though I splash the cash on high end parts every year. haha thats better. especially slayer. Smile

some fast paced and brutal music usually gives the feeling that the games itself gets faster and more brutal!

im busy playing on the 360 now though. table tennis, graw and oblivion, all really good games. i also upgraded my computer and are trying some games i couldnt play before. f.e.a.r, condemned, aoe3, prey...anything ive missed that is worth checking out? i went to gamerankings, but there doesnt seem to be that many games that have came out for awhile worth getting.

Just a few suggestions based mainly on the fact that if you didn't have a PC that was powerful enough to run F.E.A.R. then you probably didn't see these games in all their glory - Half Life Ep 2/Sin Episodes even though both are too short and perhaps slightly dissapointing, Heroes of Might and Magic 5, SpellForce 2, Black and White 2 with addon, Battle for Middle Earth 2, Star Wars EAW, Rise of Legends, Galactic Civilizations 2, Swat 4 plus addon, Crashday, Hammer and Sickle, BattleField 2 with addons, Need for Speed Most Wanted, The Movies with addons, Flatout 2, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4, Doom 3 with addon, Serious Sam 2, GT Legends, WarHammer DOW plus addon, Act of War with addon, X3, Trackmania Sunrise, Silent Hunter 3, Dungeon Siege 2, Far Cry, UT2004 with all the official/community bonus packs.

I thought Prey was pretty uninspired as far as FPS games go, looks nice and all but the puzzles/portals/gravity element didn't really do it for me, much preferred Quake 4 and certainly wouldn't splash out the money for it on a 360 if I owned that machine.

The recent Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale compilations were fantastic IMO there the best pure RPG's to grace any format, still have my boxed retail versions of all the games so the release was wasted on me but boy did it bring back some great memories - not the best game to test out your fancy new hardware on though and yeah I agree looking back over the PC Games iso database there really isn't that much worth getting.

Titan Quest is also alright as far as buggy clickfests go.

aha, as i suspected. pretty limited. well i guess it was worth upgrading fot the use of hd-tv. kind of sad the lack of games though. but as you mentioned, games like prey is not worth buying imho. rather play it on computer.

hmm, might try bf2, i always wanted to try that, but i guess playing bots is pretty stupid. q4 shuld be fun as well. some mindless shooting is ok now and then. just ask boulli! Very Happy

oh my god, my head is about to explode. no more whiskey for me. Sad thx for the suggestions.

I tryed out the "Metal Remix" edition earlier on. Simply put it does what it says on the tin, I guess its all about your preference in music - I don't think its a classic soundtrack to accompany the game but its certainly better than the original Flatout soundtrack and the one which ships with the retail of Flatout 2 which despite some good bands included sounds more like the cliched soundtrack to some random american college/comedy flick.

Oh btw I notice the 360 is getting its own version of Flatout just incase the next gen owners fealt left out, wouldn't surprise me at all if its the definitive version of the game. IGN has the details.

Tell me about it, dont have the probs with the head or whiskey but I've been working 6/7 days a week for the past 3 or 4 months whilst trying to fit in friends, family, gym, gaming, social life etc and generally just leading a fucking hectic life - my entire body feels like its just received a lap dance from a 40 stone woman and I have a slight twitch in my right eye caused by lack of sleep Wink Smile Wink . Sure the moneys nice but baaaah. Razz

You almost got me right.

I've been a PC man for years and have flirted with handheld consoles gamegear/lynx/GP32/DS

I wouldnt touch a playstation with a bargepoll for fear of losing my job and being moved to a council estate.

PC markets got so stupid now I can't keep up with the hardware and I no longer have the time to tweak the pc to get the best framerate.

My kid destroys dvds and CDs so I needed a media player.

Low and behold the XBMC

Which does everything I need now.

Alot of new games look good but not all of em play too well.

I still play chuckie egg via speccy emu on xbox Smile

Yeah, that wasn't a dig at you or anything I wrote it in reference to others on the site

As you said once modded there pretty versatile machines - a great media player as you say, great for emulation, a good back catalogue of games for all ages and covering a huge range of genres and there affordable plus Xbox Live is great.

I have a pretty decent PC and play the majority of games just don't post into the PC games section on this site because all the best posters of yesteryear don't post there anymore and as a result it just isn't very good.

Funny that you mention the Lynx btw, I still have mine boxed in the house, had to be amongst the biggest wastes of money I've ever spent. You'll probably agree with me about it being technically great for its time, it had a great screen/sound and the odd nice title like Todds adventures in slimeworld, Klax, Gauntlet but damn did it die a death. In the absence of a PS2 thread, unless you feel like making up a new one may as well just use this thread for game discussion. Smile

I noticed StarShine's post about the Metal Remix. I thought that was a cool idea, but since i don't like most of those bands i made my own remix. All you have to do is replace the fsb audio files in the songs folder. You can convert mp3 or whatever to fsb format with an app called fsbank.exe. Just do a google search for it if you are interested, you'll get a direct download link as a result. Here is a link with a tutorial on how to use fsbank:

Hey fwb73, here is a link to the fsbank.exe i used:
https://mirror1.cvsdude.com/trac/saladyears/Cities3D/browser/fmod-3.7.4/tools/fsbank.exe?rev=21
This should work for any platform. All i did was put 36 tracks in a folder, and left all the settings at default (all platforms PCM). You should make sure your tunes are at 128 kbs bitrate or your converted fsb files will be huge in file size. After they are converted just re-label them to #1 through 36.
Now when it says i'm listening to Nickelback... it's DEICIDE instead. Twisted Evil
