Personally I think its a shame that they wont be sold as real commercial products to everyday consumers, there are millions of people in the world who have a house, jobs, food.. live in a none third world country, but who cant afford to buy computer equipment for themselves or they're kids. Why not hit the mass market and bring affordable computing power to everyone!

Yeah, I'd have to see a live demo of it and what kinda things you can do with it
And syn, your right. They should put these on sale for lower income family's who cant afford cpu's. More kids would have access to knowledge (and bs  )

ive heard that in INDIA ppl are dying from hunger, but they have some kind of "palms" that ables them to connect to internet via wi fi, and that the indian territory has the vastest coverage of wifi in the world.
maybe that's why so many companies are moving to india, and are hiring that many indian employees, worldwide. as we, occidentals are thinking in sex, and the next beer, they are playing around with wifi from little ones.

you guys are retarded...
in the west you have all kinds of things that can help you. But in the really poor country there isnt shit for you. How could you all be so blind or you just dont want to know/ are retarded. Its better to invest into those poor countries than give them money and nothing happens. Lets see what this brings us and than go bitching. And M$ is not supporthing this ... you know why? cuz it runs on linux lol..

Well i'm sure for people from the 3rd world who are starving and who don't have a place to stay it is a top priority to get a laptop before anything else. I find these kind of projects ridicilous. They should rather care that these people get enough to eat, clean drinking water and a long term perspective there they can make a living on their own.

Its not every where in Africa the situation is like that. Some places they got some food, some clean water and some schools. And i think this laptop is meant for places like this, so their children can get better educated and eventually help their own country. Not saying we should stop helping them.

This project isn't meant to replace food, for cripe's sake.
That said, it's stupid and will probably hurt the local economies because it competes against local computer manufacturers.

I think giving away computers is stupid, If these people are anything like me they are going to get stuck in front of the computer for hrs trying to do something and not be doing what they should be doing. IMO when these families get really hard up the are going to sell them
They would be much better off if the money went into the school system and that school got a few computers.
Adults will be using these computers the kids bring home.

Kinda interesting. Here, there is a pilot program in the public school system that is giving free lab tops to grade 7 kids, only 2 schools (inner city) in the lower mainland I believe.
I was talking to the teachers that will be in charge of the program. So far they know very little about it can couldn’t answer any questions that I had. I have one prediction - How many parents are going to selling off these free laptops to support their crack habits. I asked that to the teachers and *blank look* “gee, I never through of th
