So as you may or may not be aware, Sierra shut down the Tribes 2 master server, making it impossible to play online. Well some fans have taken the free version of Tribes 2 that was released a few years ago(which is the full game not a demo), patched it to use a new player run master server, enabling online play again.

Has everything you need to play, the game client and the patch. Just install, patch, and play. Not many servers yet, and it's still kinda buggy, but this is a great chance for all you old timers to play again and new comers to get a chance to give it a go.

and one of the best. Dunno why this wasn't more popular amongst my FPS loving real life friends but it wasn't. I thought it was brilliant.

Yeah i had alot of fun with this one, anybody who missed out i would recommend to try this out...

What about anti cheat? I'm hoping that being free and run by the T2 community doesn't mean "full of hackers" I'll download and have a look.

t2 had some anti cheat utility (defense tower ? something like that), if however it actually helped against hackers, dunno. On the other hand, so few people are playing, nobody bothers making cheats for it anyway (i guess)

I'm so glad to hear this. I've spent more than a healthy amount of time playing Tribes 2 back in the day. The game was revolutionary and supported the most players at one time than any game back in the day. In fact I'm sure without it games like the battlefield series would have never came to be. I think its time to start making people shout ShazBot! once more.

thanks for the info, its been a while but I agree, tribes 1 and 2 are some of the best team based FPS's ever, although i preferred tribes 1, classics

New version of the patch is out which fixes some big bugs, which were preventing people from playing.

Hmm... I installed that multiplayer fix over my version of Tribes 2 and cant get the game to start at all... reinstalling without adding that patch lets me load it, but of course the servers are offline that way.. Im using a retail version of tribes 2 (the "best seller series"), is that the issue perhaps? I might just try downloading it and trying that version with the patch too...
