Summary

Jon Hare, designer and producer of the original Sensible Soccer series, here collaborates with Codemasters and developers Kuju Entertainment for the return of the long-standing soccer series. This revival plays up the fast action and wild multiplayer of the original series, now with 3D visuals and new aggressive new arcade-style gameplay.

The game comes complete with lightning fast football action, physics defying sliding tackles and unbelievable goals that can go curling into the top corner thanks to the outrageous levels of after-touch. Visually, the game has a distinctive new graphical style, which includes cel-shaded players designed with the classic enlarged heads from the original for easy viewing of the fast-paced action.

Comments

What more needs to be said its sensible soccer ffs, graphics whores need not apply, the game definetly retains the retro feel which is great but don't expect it to replace either Pro Evo or Fifa as the footballers football game. Nicely timed release though what with the World Cup starting on Friday. Very Happy

I was more of a Dino Dini's Goal man myself back then, it played like a more accessible and playable version of Kick Off that didn't look liike shit. Used to argue with mates over the merits of Goal as opposed to Sensible Soccer - preferred the control you had of the players in general, the player stats seemed to make more of a difference on the fielld, the ball physics, variety of goals, headers, overhead/bicycle kicks and tackling system to me were better plus you could shield and trap the ball. Unquestionably what that game lacked though was the cracking transfer market and career mode that Sensible World Of Soccer had, I also remember it used to take about 30mins for the Amiga to finalize a season and prepare the game for the next one. @russ_beer, your right....you'll see why its 180megs when you play it, no 20 track EA Trax OST, no 10 minute long FMV sequences, no fancy presentation just a pure retro football game built around a pretty basic game engine with cell shaded players. There are stacks of game modes and a huge database of players although unfortunately as you can see from the screenshot there forced to take the Pro Evo route and change a few letters in the players name i.e. Viduka = Vodoke

edit...game unpacks to 490 megs btw russ_beer, gonna test it in a short while Smile

Ok played the game briefly just then, already knew how the game played because I'd tryed the demo previously....main changes are the inclusion of a sprint button and stamina bars, ball has a glued to the feet feel about it, standing headers instead of the always diving header the ball heading style that was in SS and players have a very small turning circle and are effected ever so slightly by inertia compared to the previous games - other than all of that pretty faithful to the original right down to the menu screen and the "Goalscoring Superstar Hero" theme tune.

There are loads of preset competitions and the DIY option from the previous games plus if you skim through all the preset competitions you'll see that your rewarded for completing them in the form of extra pitchs, stadiums, haircuts, boots etc unfortunately I don't know whether im missing something but the transfer market that was in SWOS appears to be gone which is pretty dissapointing. The management aspect and reaping the rewards of winning competitions financially enabling big money signings at the end of the season was for me the most appealing part of SWOS. Crying or Very sad

Still good but I don't understand why they removed one of the best features. Confused

The more I play this the more I like it, just shot after shot fired in from distance with vicious aftertouch and their goalie scrambling all over the place and making some very odd saves in the process - I saw someone saying that this is more like Striker on the Amiga than Sensi which is a pretty good comparison, I think it sits happilly between the two games has noticable elements of both games style and gameplay in it.

Im gonna keep my eyes peeled for an "unlock all" code (hopefully there is one) and post it in the highly likely instance that im not the only person on this forum who doesn't want to play literally 1000's of games to unlock a muddy pitch, a leather ball, dinner jackets, a mohawk haircut etc

I also noticed that the SWOS career mode and transfer market definetly aren't in the game after all, guess I just took it for granted I would be able to take a conference team up to the premiership then take over as England manager and win the World Cup. Not to be sadly, maybe Sven and the boys will do the business instead Embarassed

edit......oh yeah mean't to say MLB Slugfest 2006 plus And1 Basketball (in DVD9 and DVD5 format ((DVD5 is missing nothing movies simply relinked)) have been out for a while in case anyone missed them. Smile

I'm having the same problem. Can't get the fooker to burn properly. Used Record Now which i've used for years and never had a problem with and it keeps telling me to put a blank dvd in and spits the other out, then i tried nero which burnt it, but won't play it.

gonna try rebuilding it using Craxtion and see if it likes it then. what a ballache, the thought that such a little iso could make me so much trouble!

Don't know if this is any help russ_beer but in the past when I've tryed to burn smaller iso's because the size of the raw data has been less than the full capacity of a CD-R the burning software has automatically selected CD-R as the media type and spat out the DVD-R I tryed to burn it onto - could double check that Nero or your choice of burning software isn't doing that, I presume thats not the case because someone like yourself would have noticed but offer it up as a suggestion.

For a simple solution quickly leech MLB Slugfest, Stacked, Cars etc or use any old games you have lying around and stick them on a multi disc with Sensible using craxtion or zxbtools. The game works off a multi disc because I tryed it last night. Wink

rebuilding it with craxtion worked Starshine me matey.

Played it just now, played as England against Paraguay, trinidad and tobago and sweden in the order they play at the world cup...

I beat paraguay 2-1, t&t 2-0 and sweden 2-1 with sweden hitting the bar twice! Reckon them scores might be worth a fiver on at the bookies tomorrow! Remember you saw the scorelines here first!!!! Smile

PS In case people were wondering, I've Always found MLB Slugfest to be well worth the price of admission. A worthy download, especially if its a small un.

Yes, using Enigmah PAL/NTSC selector and if your tv supports both video formats.

Unfortunately my TV doesn't support both formats, thanks though. If anyone figures a way for me to get this working let me know, but I'm pretty much resigned to not being able to play it until an official NTSC version comes out.

open craxtion and choose extract an iso, extract the spare Sensible soccer iso to a directory of your choosing, then once thats done, choose the rebuild/build an iso option and highlight the directory you have just extract the iso to. then rebuild it calling it sensi soccer or sommat and burn it, it won't look any different, it won't be any bigger or smaller, but it should burn fine.

A game of this size should automatically be put on a multi-disc.
