It's gonna have Starforce, so I bet some people here are gonna start complaining Laughing

Unfortunately, (StarForce) was the copy protection that our development partner felt most comfortable with, and thus we published the title with the copy protection software in place.

Game hasn't shipped yet to Europe. There might be several reason why the clone-kiddies hasn't released it yet.

Aww fuck yeah! I *adore* the two HTA titles, you can't even play Rise of the Clans on modern OSes and systems Sad I wonder if the Steam release has been "fixed" for that? Also, each listing says "included in Ex Machina Gold Edition" but where's the Gold Edition on Steam? I'm going to wait for a sale though, I love these games and have finished them a few times over the years, so egh to paying €7.99+€5.99 for 8 year old games Razz

Oh, no, it's not the StarForce that stops RotC from working - it's just a general error, the game crashes and burns at first load and, unlike the first HTA, simply disabling movies via INI/CFG doesn't fix this. I haven't been able to play RotC since my XP days but HTA works fine Smile

*sigh* They haven't fixed anything >_>

http://steamcommunity.com/app/285500/discussions/0/558750717144592924/

"Remove the video from this folder Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ Hard Truck Apocalypse \ data \ video and restart the game."

That's the "fix" to get the game working on Win7/8 and it's the same fix as the boxed copy. They haven't fixed the game so I don't expect RotC to work either, because if they can't be arsed to fix the video subsystem that causes the loading screen crash in HTA, what chance is there they fixed the resolution-based crash from RotC?

~edit~

Yup... Sad I'll stick to my (non-functional >_>) originals, no way am I spending money on something they couldn't even be arsed to fix.

The developers (Targem Games) didn't even know the game was being published on Steam until they heard about it from users on their forum.

Buka the publisher just planned to make quick cash without bothering to fix anything, like you said.

More publisher dickery it seems Sad Shame too because despite the age of these they're still cracking games and I'd love a properly fixed version - same with Deck13s Venetica; it has HUGE playability issues and I was hoping the Greenlit Steam version would have fixed everything but it turns out Deck13 had nothing to do with the Greenlight stuff, it was the publisher (dtp) that was doing everything so even if the game had come to Steam it would be the same broken one that was available via retail. Sadly it's not coming at all now since dtp filed for bankruptcy in 2012.

I wish they'd get back to patching Venetica so that it works properly, rather than needing frankly horrible homebrew tools that screw up your CPU affinities until you reboot. The performance is terrible and it's prone to constant crashing, shame as it was a surprisingly good game and I'd certainly like to try it again. As for HTA, at least I can play my original copy (using a no-cd to avoid the Starforce crap) as long as I delete the videos, but I guess RotC is a no go Sad
