I am thinking of selling my modded xbox snce I dont game on it much and only use it for watching movies. Can the 360 play movies in divx/xvid/mpeg format. If it does I can safley sell off my xbox.

the dvd player is region free for movies but you cant play vcd xvid or avi on it you can however play WMV and WMA and mp3 and you can stream stuff from ur pc but thats about it the media capabilities of xbox360 unmodded are nowhere nr the XBMC just sell ur xbox buy a 360 and a dvdplayer that plays divx/xvid there's plenty of cheap options these days for that Last edited by dvsone on Fri, 4th Aug 2006 18:25; edited 1 time in total

what abt after modding with xtreme firmware..does that help any?

nope all modding the firmware does is trick the 360 into think a DVDROM is actually a XBOXDVD

You need a Windows Media Center PC and transcode 360 installed on it to play divx, xvid, etc.

unfortunately transcode360 degrades the image quality

I was thinking about this too a while ago but decided to keep my xbox because the 360 can't do it in an easy way.

Yes , but a standalone Divx player can not play everything .(OGM , Vorbis , mkv , ...)
And a modded Xbox with XBMC can really almost play any video file . Only thing it can't play is H.264 video files.
If i was you i would keep my modded Xbox , only to play your movies . And even if you will sell how much would get for it . 70 Euro . That is giving away .

The only thing where i am waiting on is a way to put a big HD in the XBox360 , the same way with the old Xbox . And so i can play H.264 Video files . Because the Xbox 360 is powerfull enough to play those files .
