Quote: | PCSX2 0.9.1 - Release
[ Posted by CKemu 16:58 on 03 07 2006 ]
PCSX2 0.9.1 is now available to download, enjoy!
This release brings a significant speed increase to the majority of games, this is due to a complete rewrite of the EE and VU recompilers. Various other improvements have increased compatibility with games, you will be able to check your game against the included compatibility list, which lists nearly 1000 titles (Please note at time of release list is not guaranteed 100% accurate).
Whilst the new recompilers are a major improvement, the recompilers are not 100% accurate at present, this may result in a number of broken games.
A further release will be created in the future enhancing upon the overall compatibility of the new recompilers. This is part of a new release schedule where we plan to be releasing more frequently; however, do not make requests for releases or ask when such a release will be produced.
As ever we have opened a 'screenshots' thread for you to post in, and the forums are there for you to discuss the project and ask questions.
You will also be aware that the Hot Shots Contest started earlier this month. Given the lack of entries sofar, we are extending the contest deadline until the 15th July 2006, you may enter shots from PCSX2 0.9.1 (recommended) or 0.9, those of you who have already entered are allowed to update your posts with new submissions if you wish.
Hopefully people are more imaginative, and post less Final Fantasy shots Wink
EDIT: A regression bug was fixed. Now Makai Kingdom, Grandia II, Rez, and Taito Legends should work. It is recommended that you redownload 0.9.1. |

Downloading Kingdom Hearts 2 now to give it a try.. not sure if that game is working, if not then I'll play around with some of the actual games I have kicking around.

Some do, not perfectly though.. there is still some way to go, but its probably the best step to playable PS2 games on the PC, i'll let you know once I've given it a try for myself in a few hours..

Id say its a waste of time. I tried KingdomHearts 2, just for the heck of it, and it didnt get past the first intro scene. The gfx were all corrupt and it went like 10 fps. Didn't work with Shadow of the Colossus or FF 12 either. And on the compatibility page for the website it only has like 4 games and they suck.

you can mount it, or just open the image from the program.

You clearly didn't check the websites compatibility lists correctly as there are over 200 fully working games. The games you tested happen to not be on there as they are recent releases which have yet to be looked into for fixes. Please reserve your statements for topics you know more about.
I also tested Kingdom Hearts 2, then read the forums for a while and found that the game has yet to be made playable, however kingdom hearts 1 has and tests show it runs well and is playable! As are many other games..
PS2's still cost a fair amount to buy, but thats not the point, I have a PS2 but I don't have a method of playing downloaded games on it.. with this I can at least test some games before I choose to buy!
Plus this isnt just about the playing of games, it shows a step forward in emulation, progress is always good.

No it just means it shouldn't crash or bug out to the extent where you cant complete the game.. Most games run at decent FPS, but I guess you should test.
KH for example runs at around 25/35 FPS which is playable

no use trying, the best n64 emu, project64 is still far from being glitchless, the best dc emu, chankast is far from running nearly smooth.
its gonna take 5 more years i m sure till ps2 games can be emulated properly.

That doesn't reflect on how easy the PS2 is to emulate at all, its utter speculation. The fact is that EVERY console is different, has its own strengths and weakness's. N64's are hard to emulate due to the memory constraints as they're cartridge based, holding an entire rom in addressable memory, and keeping it in the correct address is a huge feat. The DC, well I can't comment on the reasoning behind its slow emulation progress, my guess would be that less people care about the console than those who care about the old school NES/SNES systems and the PS line..
As for this emulator, having tried it, it really is decent. If you can deal with slower frame rates (and don't own a PS2) or want to try a game out before you fork out the cash.. this is of course assuming it is on the compat list, then this is worth looking at. Sure its not perfect, but 5 years is far from the correct dating if they can get 25FPS+ from complex games now. To make it fully compatible you would be correct, as it would require thousands of per game tweaks.. but lets face it, no one wants to play EVERY game.. get the FF series working and most emulator geeks will be happy

ok whatever. Much more convenient to just buy a PS2 and download games to the HDD since you dont need a modchip.

Yah but no one wants to play those, everyone wants to play ps2.
It's all about interest in a project, and there is mucho interest and popularity with a ps2 emulator.
The n64 and dc were never this popular.

n64 emus are really popular (still loads of dev on n64 emus on pc and xbox) because its not easy to run copies on the original hardware...
dc emus because the dc hardware is thin on the ground and a tad unreliable (well fussy about disc condition) so it would be really nice for perfect emulation on a pc....
the ps2 is so cheap and easy to mod etc there isnt the same need for an perfect emu....

Thing is, everytime a console goes dirt cheap, is because a newer one and a better one is on its way. Spending 149.99 on a slim ps2 (only ones available here atm) when the ps3 is on it's way... is rather pointless... for 149.99, if sony is really that fucked up, you can buy 2 games.
Other than that... buy a ps3 when it comes out and mod it asap
sTo0z, it does

I love emulators and all progress is good news.
I just hope development doesn't die with this emulator as it has with chanka and epsxe...

I use this emu solely for doing emu dumps for code hacking with PS2DIS.
