From what I read the preview version sucked so bad that the preview guy hoped it wouldn't be released this year in order for them to fix it. so I'm not to sure

well if you mean the eurogamepreview he said the driving was good while being on foot was bad. hopefully there is much more driving!

gamespot hands on preview as less than impressive - I couldn't be bothered reading it to be honest as I was miles away but it seems to be nothing new.
Loved the original game, and I'll be sure to rent this in order to judge for myself, but it's not looking to be the game the hype suggests.
That Michelle Rodrigrez didn't seem too enthusiastic in giving it advertising props either and she was namechecking a few games and interest in them so that's not good.

I read a preview in a Dutch magazine, I'd make scan ins but most people couldn't read it so seems kind of useless.

the first review (i think). it got 7,4! :/
DRIV3R is a fun game that doesn’t quite hit the mark in every area that it tries. It obviously has a lot in common with the GTA games, but simply doesn’t match up in a straight comparison. It succeeds better as a serious driving game, yet the cars feel a little uninspired and the experience is let down here by choppy framerate and other graphical issues. The fact that performance seems to have taken a back seat to graphical quality says it all about the game's problems, and this is echoed by the disappointing cut-scenes and poor story. DRIV3R seems to take itself a little too seriously (it even has a very dry ‘making of’ documentary), at the expense of gameplay. One last thing to mention is the music, which ranges from okay to good. At least a couple of driving tracks fit great with the mission, but otherwise the soundtrack doesn’t leave a lasting impression.
