Ok so here we go, Intel is finally getting a grip and a big one on the gaming processor front. And there starts my dilemma.
I am running a A8N SLI deluxe etc with a 4000+...not to bad, but ok, not top notch anymore. Soooo here is my question, should one go for lets say a Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Boxed 584,- € (this is for sure kicking some serious arse...I know the Intel Core 2 Duo X6800 Extreme Boxed 1.041,- € will be the ARSE Master!) but lets say my pain limit is around 500-600 - €. Now this would of course include a new mobo with a 775 socket, so another 150 to 200 - €. Or another scenario, keep my mobo (no extra dosh) and go for ...what? I know AMD is dumping their prices like mad, but is it still worth it? or should one wait until AMD launches their quad config (also pretty expensive i recon and anyway a new mobo) If any one would just through in their thoughts on this, I would be most grateful.

Seriously I think you should hold on a little longer before you do any upgrades.
I am sitting here with my 3700+ and there's no game that I can't play in good enough resolutions with good performance. Thats paired up with one 7800GT and 2gb RAM.

However, I am still waiting for the Intel Conroe to be launched for real. That is a CPU that might kick some serious ass.

Hold a few more months and I am sure it will be more worth in upgrading then.

Get your point man, I am running a 7800GTX 512 + 2G of RAM and I cant say any game so much as eaven dared to go choppy on me. Its just...well you know, if its out there and it is looking so sweet as the Conroe does atm...well itchy fingers I guess. I will try to hold out to just before or after xmass maybe. I guess alot of stuff is gona hapen around Vista launch time Wink But as I am an AMD fan I really hope they come up with the goods, I would never buy a ATI card for e.g. Thats just how it is Razz

Just wait for AMD if you don't want to be crying in 6 months.

I bought the E6600, you don't have to buy an E6700 because with a little overclock the E6600 gives more performance for it's value Smile

Specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @3GHz // 2GB G.Skill PC6400 CL3 // Intel BadAxe // XFX 79000GTX XXX //...
