I don't read. At all. Not a big fan. But I picked up “The Little Prince”. I judged a book by its cover. STFU! Laughing Is this book any good? Is it worth a read? It only cost me 4.25. I thought I’d read it on the subway to school, so I haven’t even read the preface yet. I’m not enthusiastic about reading books. Why my grammar and my vocabulary are lacking considerably. Crying or Very sad

So… the little prince

Yay or Nay?

The little prince is actually one of my favorite books of all time... You might have to be in the right mood to read it, but as soon as you get into the book you'll notice that the book isn't as childish as it might seem, it actually goes pretty deep into philosophical stuff, and the some of the ideas for the book are truely fantastic.

A masters in french? Couldn't the majority of french citizens qualify for one of those? Laughing

No worries. Very Happy

Some childrens stories are excellent. I know lots of adults that have read children books like Harry Potter. I have a friend who is a librarian at a middle school (grades 7-9). She reads all the kids books over first before she puts them on the shelf. She really loves them.

IT IS NOT A CHILDREN'S BOOK Razz! Sure, it looks like one, and it can be read to a child, but the book was not written strictly as a book "for children".. it is aimed at everyone, it has some huge philosophical meaning if you get deep into the stories meaning.

@sYn

I have never seen the book and I didn't click on the link so bad on me. It was one of those books in high school you read that have all that deeper meaning stuff.

I am going to keep my eyes open for it. Second hand book stores FTW

Thats because an English degree is completely different from a French degree, at least in the western world it is. A massive amount of it is based on literature. It's stupid to compare them.

French is very rarely taught as a full time course on it's own because there just isn't enough to learn. It only really consists of the language and the basics of french culture.

Yes, the majority of native french speakers could pass the course piss easy.

ERrrm.. I think your thinking of GCSE french.

http://www.dur.ac.uk/mlac/french/modules/
http://www.dur.ac.uk/programme.specifications/module_list/?prog=Q300

The french degree (using durham as an example) is easily compairable to an English degree. Of course the French degree is not as open ended as the English degree due to the lack of classic works, it simply focues the student on a smaller set of litterary topics. Seriously, if you think any old french person from the street could walk into an english university and get a degree in french without working, you're wrong.

It boils down to the simple fact that both degrees concentrate on the literature and culture of the society in question throughout the past 300 or so years.

Just because you can read something, doesn't mean you truely understand it.

Spelling should never matter in an online public place. Even more it shouldn’t even be considered in a public place where more than half of its residents are ESL based folk. It just angers me that most insults I see, where ever I go, are just for grammar and spelling. It’s saddening. Crying or Very sad if you notice that someone made a mistake don’t be crazy and tell them that. It's insulting. You think you're better than them and you want them to feel belittled. It's wrong! For all you know, he might be a highest paying Romanian lawyer who just recently began learning another language and you’re nothing but some movie ticket stub collector who got a degree in English and will end up writing a novel that will just let you live a life of wealth for the first three years and then after that you’ll be struggling. Yeh.

IT’s horrible that people often judge others based on their spelling and grammar. Fuck! I really really really really hate that. As long as you have the idea what the other person is saying then that should be all that is important. You’re not submitting a research paper or something that will be graded. You will not be grading a research paper. You’re having a typical discussion. Hehe. Being anal about someone miseplling certain words is just… ack I want to strangle that person so bad!

Nothing against you, pistolshrimp, I just hate it when people focus more on how they write rather than what they write. Content should be number one!
