Heres the current build I'll be buying, these specs are final I dont need help with them. My question is, would I be okay with a 450watt , or even a 400 watt power supply? Is there a certain criteria you go by to determine how much power will be needed? My last comp I built myself and its still running good but I have frequent power issues (from my AIW 9800pro I think) that I want to avoid this time.

- Western Digital Caviar SE 320GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive
- SAPPHIRE Radeon X850XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
- CORSAIR 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2000MHz HT Socket 939 Dual Core Processor
- ASUS A8N5X Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
- +A DVD burner, seperate DVD reader drive, and about 4 fans.

Any case suggestions that come with a good power supply and have great heat management + not too much noise would be appreciated as well, but what I really need to know is how low I can go with power here and be safe.

Do I really need that much though? I was expecting 500w at the most, I'm building this for a friend of mine and trying to keep the cost low, but I dont want to have power issues and end up costing him more.

A 500psu will be just fine. I have more stuff on my pc than what you have listed and mine runs just fine on 500.
Here is what I have.
AMD64 4000+
2GB OCZ titanium Ram
150GB Raptor
250GB SE16 SATA II
ATI X1900XTX
NEC DVD RW
SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
DFI CFX3200 Motherboard
6 Fans
Logitech G15 Keyboard USB
Logitech G7 Mouse USB
ATI Remote wonder 2 USB
Antec SP 500watt

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one

you should never try to save money on a power supply, i splashed out for a tagan and it has lasted me 2 years and countless processor/mainboard upgrades.

I think that a Tagan 480Watt will do it's job just fine.
I have such PSU and I think that my system needs a little more energy as yours, so that'll work with your PC
Other good brands are: the new GameXtraam series of OCZ, Seasonic, Antec,.. (but just don't buy crap like CaseMaster or something like that)

Specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @3GHz // 2GB G.Skill PC6400 CL3 // Intel BadAxe // XFX 79000GTX XXX //...

Seasonic all the way for me... Very Happy

Cheap PSU = Lower wattage than stated.. seriously, buy a 500W cheap PSU and you will get about 300W in reality.
