After a short amount of time spent debating whether or not its possible to vote on which game is better bearing in mind that all three of those titles are trying to achieve something very, very different and should be taken on their own merits.... I thought fuck it and chose Black.
Reasons being
1. Its super slick game design leading to an uncluttered almost cinematic gaming experience from start to finish.
2. Its a console only title and as a result benefits. Nobody can say its a sub standard/average port.
3. Its a title which pushes the Xbox to the very limits of its capabilites and in my eyes looks great even alongside some of the better looking PC titles considering the Xbox specs.
4. Great weapons/weapon models/weapon sounds.
5. Exceptional sound/atmosphere.
I still have my criticisms that I would level at Black and as previously mentioned prefer Timesplitters and Halo series over all three of those games - just my opinions though.

Black is an excellent shooter on the XboX - looks great & sounds fantastic. Story is ok & the corny dialogue between Sergeant Keller & the interrogator always brings a smile to my lips <Keller can't be that thick surely?!>
Levels are large & while linear are beautifully designed & varied - great night-time forest area at border crossing, creepy asylum with fantastic sound effects of water dripping, etc, brilliant dockyard level with some mad ambush areas , lovely bridge level where you go across, under & over bridge & a challenging last level where you storm the Gulag & get that nasty Lennox (or do you ? hmmm) in typical Sergeant Keller "What-collateral-damage?" mode
Really hope there is a sequel - even user mod's with some new levels would be a blast.
Overall I keep coming back & replaying this game just for the fun factor it has of totally demolishing an area - in Dolby Surround with a good speaker setup the game completely immerses you in its world - love it !
I also chose Black, it's just a great shooter, the only thing that might turn you off a little is some of the enemies can take one too many shotgun blasts... even to the head.

I find the magnum is awesome at range for 1 shot stops to the head or more commonly 2 shots to the body of those pesky shotgun pyscho's. Shield guys really suck so any assault rifle or M248 at range, or get in close with the MP5 & shoot them in the legs & side of body. Grenades are for w00ses ! Hope Criterion make a sequel like soon, real soon!
Yeah looks like it. Its always worth remembering in these polls that there is no right or wrong answer as long as both you guys stick to your guns and know the reasons why in your opinion whichever game you voted for is better then thats all that really matters.
I honestly don't know how you didn't get even a smidgeon of enjoyment out of Painkiller russ_beer, without trying it I can only put it down to the limitations of the Xbox version. I installed the Black Edition of it on my PC only days ago and played through the first Chapter upto and past the first HUGE boss that blows a hurricane out his mouth and it is just a hell of alot of fun and has some very, very impressive levels/visuals and enemies - sure its old school in its run and gun style but play later into the game and you'll see they mixed the gameplay up with the odd puzzle and the bosses in themselves are puzzles. You also have unlocks in the form of the tarot cards which are unlocked by completing small achievements and give you all sorts of powers.
Its all good though, it just wasn't your cup of tea I guess.
