some of the screenshots look pretty crapp imo like this one
http://www.unrealtechnology.com/screens/TerrainShot.jpg
arent some of these pics pretty old aswell? and non of these uber unreal engine pics ever seem to ammount of great graphics in a game, i remember seeing some unreal engine shots like 2+ years ago which looked really awesome and i dont remember any games ever looking like they did.

Well Gears of War looks pretty spectacular, and so does UT 2007 but I think Crysis has stolen alot of their thunder lately.

Statics do little to impress me. From an artistic standpoint there is a lot to admire about some of the shots from Unreal but gameplay wise they tell me little and pessimistically doom it to be intrinsically like it's predecessors in it's lack of dynamism.
Just think; Doom III mechanics. It's soul destroying.

In case you didnt know there is a huge boost towards the unreal 3 engine that has been forgooten that is the endless worlds rendering , that means that the unreal 3 engine can create and render successfully theoritically ENDLESS 3d environments ( forests and terrain ) without an impact on performance , somthing no other engine has and never been done before .

Doesn't Oblivion use something like that? Their forests are generated randomly on the fly.

No, it was randomized with speedtree when they created the environment. It looks the same for everyone.

Cryengine 2 also supports streaming environments

By the amount of licensees Epic has by now, I would have thought everybody had heard about UE3 by now. Kind of obsolete topic.
Oh, and the screenshots at unrealtechnology.com are ancient and were only used to demo a few of the features in the engine, some of them are even from UE2x.
For real references, you have to see screenshots from the different games running on UE3, but visceral quality varies a lot from developer to developer.

There are too many games (announced and unannounced) and licensees to list, really. But for a few examples (look them up at GameSpot or otherwise):
Bioshock
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
Elveon
Gears of War
Huxley
Mass Effect
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Stranglehold
Too Human
Unreal Tournament 2007

Wait Double Agent uses the UE3? Are you sure? I thought it uses another modified version of the second Unreal engine (like the other SC games).

Yeah, my bad. It does in fact use a modified version of UE2.5x. PC- and Xbox360-version will use a multi-threaded version of it, though.
