i say console to pc for the simple fact its easier to make a game on a console then just slap it on the pc with a few new res options. granted this is a shitty thing to do, but thats the business.

yeah id say the same. most console ports are very literal translations to pc - the graphics, and controls and gameplay are identically copied from the consoles version.

but pc games usually have to have their textures and model qualities lowered significantly, and their controls configured and simplified to the controller... so yeah, console to pc is easier than pc to console id say.

I don't really care what the console gamers get, and some console -> PC games are OK imo...

Console to Pc because usually PC game specs are higher than the standard on consoles.

Making games for PC though are generally a lot easier depending on the scope really. But say building a from the ground up game for the console would be harder than for a PC if they were both aiming for the same results.

consoles don't deserve ports IMO - there is more than enough great console games at it is.

I was thinking of things like

Half life 2
and then Halo

The halo conversion was a lot easier. That might be because they added stuff in for HL2 and otpimised it I don't know but it's fair to say it's not that difficult to do halo.

If a game like onimusha was made specifically for the PC, the changes for it to get ported to a console (xbox / ps2 not 360) would mean having to supplement / strip things from the games for it to run properly. Finding the balance will be hard. Porting Crysis to the xbox 360 will be a lot harder than it would be to port gears of war.

PC to Console
You have to streamline the game (dumb it down, remove all advanced options), redo controls and interface, adjust your game to run on one hardware configuration only, etc.

Console to PC
You have to make sure the game can run on different hardware configurations, redo controls, add in resolution options, etc.

I am not going to vote for either, as I think it is 50-50 and really depends on the game you are porting.

I'd rather have it from PC to console. That way PC gamers get a great game and console gamers get a great game too.
Console to PC normally ends up with PC getting a shitty game and consoles getting a great game.

I dont care if its easier or harder for developers to port from or to PC. I just wanna play some good games for once and not some dumbed down console crap.
I'd have thought it would have been easier to take things out for console than add other things later for PC.

Either way if its a crappy console port with shitty controls i dont play it.
A bit like Just Cause demo atm. Really crappy controls for me as i play with arrow keys for movement. I've played like that since i first set foot in Half Life 1. The mod on the forum says u can change controls in final version so things should be ok.
It has been consolified tho hehe.

QFT, I voted for PC to Console for those reasons.

Like i said i think it should be easier to go from the high end to the relative low end i.e pc to console.

I know consoles are on par with the pc atm but that will all change when dx 10 cards are released. PCs are always gonna be ahead of consoles.

Why is everyone assuming that anything is added to the PC port of a console game? Most console game developers don't bother putting much effort at all into PC ports. The best you can usually hope for are control customization and a high-res mode, neither of which are particularly hard to implement. PC game developers are forced to put in the effort to cut their games down to spec and mold them to a specific type of controller, on the other hand.

I agree that porting to a PC can be at least as hard as porting from one, but that doesn't have much relevance to reality, or to the question being asked.

It also depends on what console it's being ported from. For example, when a playstation 2 game gets ported to PC you can guarantee it's going to look like ass to PC gamers. Now if it's a 360 game, at least it can still satisfy PC gamers visually, if not in the gameplay department.
