moved to general chatter to get more traffic
So with todays press releases stating that "the pirates are fighting back" bringing a commercial darknet system and a new "brightnet" system to the everyday user, I want to know which you would choose.
Personally I am all about the darknet, I have been for years and would never turn my back on something that obviously works so damn well. Why groups are not getting in the act is beyond me, but who knows, maybe they are.. However, a commercial darknet? In my eyes that defeats the point.. I certainly wont be paying per month for a darknet service I can get for free (although it does seem to have added benifits over some of the current darknet applications)!

I like to stay hidden. But the bad thing about things gettin' more and more hidden, Is that those that do child-porn and such can slip under the radar..
Sig too big.

Exactly, this is why I am so against the commercialization of such systems. When these applications exist and are relatively unknown they can't really cause harm, however with the increasing attention being paid to "downloaders" it simply gives the real bad guys more information on how to dodge the law.

huh??!! never heard of those terms. i used to log into a BBS back in the early 90, called DARKDATA... thats all about dark in my life....
how make something that should remain dark, becoming a light, so that it bright??? nonsense!!!
wouldn't be that illegal??
for me, great that they do so. gonna distract attention from the dark side...

Well to put it simply a darknet is a virtual network of some kind that is encrypted and where anonymity between the clients is kept. A brightnet works on the same basic principle of creating a virtual network except no encryption is used, simply a protocol that splits the data up into chunks and rearranges them and merges them with other data blocks from other files so they can only be put back together by the person download.. essentially.. crude encryption.
Now, the government has the right to demand your public key to decrypt any data they believe could be illegal.. which is why "darknet" is called "illegal" in that document.

It would be silly to think you could escape facing charges for piracy, for instance, by using darknet. The authorities can still monitor the datastream going to your house. 500GB a month would still look suspectfull
