I only have one person in my family who does. He is from a country, that shall remain nameless that has A LOT of wars. He is older now and I listen to all his stories. Same stories over and over again. Other then that no one else in my family.

Well my hubby was a Royal Marine. He was denied selection for the SAS. He's too tall and he won't fit into a standard chute harness. My brother also a Royal marine. As was my uncle and cousin. My Granddad was at Dunkirk. He was so shell shocked he couldn't face combat again. He was put pulling bodies in the Blitz. His brother was killed in the battle of Britain he was 19. His other brother was kiled in some African country. He was charged with cowardice in the face of the enemy. As it turns out it was BS. He was marched to a cliff and when he tried to run, he was shot in the back. So the cowardice charge. About a year ago the Redcross sent photos of his grave.

My father fought in Kenya and killed two people. He cried about it on his deathbed.

My husband was in the Falklands. He will not talk about it. When I ask him about it he goes into a rage. So I think he was in heavy action.

Nearly forgot. My mother was a telex op in the Woman's RAF. When she first used my computer to search for knitting patterns, I was gobsmacked. You know when someone uses a keyboard for the first time. Well you don't think they can find anything. Well she could type like a master. I was amazed.

They didn\t die in wars Dazz. My Granddad and my dad both died of cancer. Obviously I never met my granddads brother so I'm not really bothered. Although I am proud of my families past.

My fathers side of the the family. Well my aunt's husband went down with his ship during the Arctic convoy.

That is harsh.

My family member is a bit strange about it all. He talks like it happened to someone else. When he lost his son (my roommate and cousin) he really didn't show too much emotion. He thinks there is something wrong with him because he didn't cry.

He had a brain tumor removed (21 hr surgery) and now he is a lot more emotional. Kinda like how some people are after a stroke. His emotions are kinda messed up. He laughes and starts crying. He lives all in the past now. Him and his wife left the country because they didn't want their kids fighting in wars. He fought in 4 and said that was enough.

It's totally normal they don't talk about it. I mean my dad. He was on a patrol in Kenya. He was 19 years old. They used to fuck about. playing Tarzan and shit. Anyway he had a scar on his nose. I never found out about it until he was dying. What happened was they went to a small villay looking for Mau Mau. His company was told to round up the people in the village and see if they had ID cards. His seargent told him anyone that comes out the pen used for pigs he was to shoot them. Two lads unarmed about 14 years old jumped the fence. His seargent asked him why he didn't shoot them. He said they were only kids. So the twat pulled back a branch and plit his nose in half.

I'll add my dad was a Bren gunner.
That story always gives me a smile when I think about it.

Well in another year i will go through a whole military training.
And everyone here got some kind of military training in israel - Everyone!

In my family so far only my father and my sister have a military rank (except for my mother she has something wrong in her leg), and in the next year i will also have (when i will turn 1Cool.
And in my expanded family everyone got a military rank - my grandparents aunts, cousins etc...

Military is something you have to do here once you turn 18, unless you have a severe medical problem.

Enjoy the next 3 years. Go for communications. You can make some real cash doing that.

Its obligatory for every male, exept people with illness, bad sight or other things like that.
Mostly from the age of 17-21

Think its 20 in Norway. Some do their duty earlier, some later. Some friends of mine want to be 'apprentice' there. Well, its abit more freedom. So i can be done with my certificate of apprenticeship first.. Smile

No and thank god no.

I hear sick stories of soldiers sleeping in the barracks and getting woken up at 5 in the morning by very cold and bright TL lights, instructors coming in and yelling. Then brushing your teeth, making your bed and getting dressed in two minutes. Awful.....
