Everytime I start Reservoir Dogs It gets past the Protection Check then the screen goes black and my monitor changes resolution but then it goes straight back to desktop with no error message and I can't load any other game (e.g. I have been playing Richard Burns Rally) until I reboot my PC. I checked the game folder and noticed a debug.log and there are plenty of errors:

EnumDevicesCallback: Found MOUSE input device 'Mouse' 'Mouse'
EnumDevicesCallback: *** WARNING *** Could not acquire MOUSE device 'E_ACCESSDENIED'
EnumDevicesCallback: Found KEYBOARD input device 'Keyboard' 'Keyboard'
EnumDevicesCallback: *** WARNING *** Could not acquire KEYBOARD device 'E_ACCESSDENIED'
EnumDevicesCallback: Found JOYSTICK/GAMEPAD input device 'SmartJoy Dual PLUS Adapter' 'SmartJoy Dual PLUS Adapter'
EnumDevicesCallback: Matching first free device (0)
EnumDevicesCallback: Joystick has 16 buttons, 6 axes and 1 pov's
EnumDevicesCallback: *** WARNING *** Could not acquire JOYSTICK/GAMEPAD device 'E_ACCESSDENIED'

I don't think this is causing the Crash but further down the log I noticed this:

As you can see near the bottom I have a GF5900XT and should run this game no problem but can't!!!! I have tried updating drivers but still the same problem!

What is it with EIDOS games these days?
The only games I have had problems with in the last few years are all EIDOS games:
Hitman Contracts
Hitman Blood Money
And now Reservoir Dogs!

Anyone know whats going on????
Evil or Very Mad

According to DXDiag version installed is:

Direct X 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Updated using DX version that came with Reservoir Dogs and DXDiag now says:

Direct X 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

So I already had the latest version installed!!!!! Evil or Very Mad

sure you have the hardware acceleration slider in display adapter troubleshooting all the way up?
sometimes when updating drivers it goes off, which is silly and damn annoying
do you have any of those refresh rate forcing applications on or the kind applied that alter the actual monitor profile?
if yes, remove and revert settings
the game might demand a specific resolution and refresh rate combination that is blocked
i met a game some time ago that demanded a 60hz refresh rate
luckily it sucked, so i didn't even get a headache in the time i tested it Razz

let me guess, you're running on ancient drivers?

try disable AA if you have it forced on - it causes texture disappearance on some rare games that don't support it

ps: it wasn't outrun

i have even worse problems. Newest nvidia drivers, newest directx version. When i try to start the game it just crashes outright. No console, just an error message saying: windows has encountered an error... Only difference is im running Media Center 2005, that has to be the issue but shoot, I havent had one with anything else yet.

Not gonna make a new thread for my question, since its also RD related and kind of a problem.

I'm running the game fine, no glitches, crashes or anything like that but the framerate is capped at 25?!
My rig is surely good enough for this, but it just sits at 25 no matter what is happening on the screen.
So is it a limitation by the game engine or could it be a driver related issue?

edit:
Nvm, this topic had the anwser already.

My DirectX version was the same as yours and it didn't work - downloaded the August 2006 version, installed it and it worked (Although they both said 4.09.0000.0904 in DXDiag before and after I installed August 2006 version) Shocked
