Grandia HD Collection will be available “very soon,” but Minagawa would not provide a release date or more specific window.

When asked if there are plans for a physical release, Minagawa said, “Not at all.” It will be a digital-only release.

When asked if GungHo Online Entertainment would consider releasing a PlayStation 4 version, Minagawa said, “We’ll think about it, but we felt the Switch was the console platform best suited for JRPGs, and we are first focused on release for Nintendo Switch and PC.”

The code for Grandia is based on the original PlayStation version.

The ports are being handled by Sickhead Games.

GungHo Online Entertainment touched up as many art assets as possible. Most of the user interface received a complete overhaul, aside from a few menu digits that could not be replaced. There is no option to use the original sprites.

In the E3 2019 show floor demo of Grandia HD Collection, the battle ability voices were in English despite selecting Japanese voice-overs.

The audio quality will remain the same as the original PlayStation version, and no additional elements are being added to Grandia.

Asked about a potential Grandia III remaster, Minagawa said, “I cannot say. The history with Grandia III is so complicated—who distributed it, who published it, who actually has the rights. If you really want to ask that question, you’d have to go ask [original developer] Game Arts first.”

Losing the Saturn enhancements is unfortunate and the smoothing and filtering isn't the best plus the "jitter" effect also seen from the short video that is available now.

I hope there is an option for unfiltered sprites i really hate when they do that apart from that it looks ok i guess.

Hopefully, video compression also blurs it a bit which probably makes it stand out more in the game than it does here with Youtube and their encoding and compression.

Takes the edges out a bit I suppose but also hides details and often the effect whatever they used is quite strong hurting asset quality even more.

looks like plain old bilinear filtering considering how blurry the sprites are.

There isn't anything, they've been talking about using it as a reference but comparisons and videos now also from users picking up the Switch version makes it clear it's a PSX port with (roughly) filtered sprites though a few enhancements like running at a higher resolution and Grandia 2 going from AE to HD adds wide-screen support which I assume will be patched for PC and the existing port maybe fixing some of the other remaining issues too.

German translation seems to be a mess and the English one is apparently untouched so it's different in a few areas and a bit rough plus audio sync issues and the 30 FPS cap though well old game and problems so not a easy think to undo.

I am hoping that Grandia 1 just applies a full-screen post-process effect which can then be killed quite dead and that the source sprites weren't fuckered but with the shadows looking filtered along with everything else that's looking hopeful for removing the effect.

Slowly getting through this as the current backlog project of choosing (FFXIII Lighting Returns can wait on returning a bit longer. Razz ) and so far it's really fun filtering has also been lessened in the later updates but it's still a thing.

Kinda miss the charm and spirit in some older games like this and the only real complaint would be a lack of mouse support but it works other than for turning the camera being a bit wonky and it's needed constantly because the 3D areas hide fun stuff in all kinds of places.

Loving the little extra animations and sprite work on characters and while not the largest variety the additional work on portraits for expressions is also pretty nifty though the combat is pretty simplistic and there's some grinding for getting weapon proficiency and leveling and learning new stuff to kill things with. Very Happy

Whatever 100% completely legal herbal supplements were consumed during the audio and music creation phase for this game sure worked really well too and there's a good amount of variety and all kinds of strange and odd effects at play plus while dated the English and Japanese audio for some of the scenes though not 100% but better than just the intro and outro plus there's also more animated moments were even MORE drugs of 100% absolutely approved were consumed in massive quantities. Razz

And in the distant past all was glowy and weird and these stripper things (Not pictured.) were just there, kinda hard to describe the scene really.

Yeah just charge up the loading ramp as someone so eloquently said in Knights of the Old Republic 2 though here this actually works and the lady joins in on the thinly veiled euphemisms.

Nintendo approved though the localization effort very much goes with the player knowing what goes on in this place.
("Ohh this coffee gives me such a buzz." Really now.)

It's a oldie JRPG though and that means it follows the tried and true concept of the first half being a massive epic and the second half basically has a "Oh shit the plot!" moment as the developers kinda need to get somewhere with the story and start wrapping it up and the final dungeons and bits can feel anything from rushed to way too sudden though some games manage very well and others well not so much, guess I'll see what this is once I get that far in...lots of hours. Very Happy
