4 hours and 1 sleepless night in between, I finally flashed my samsung drive to xtreme 3.0 firmware. Reason I had to take so much time.

1) Opening the case the first time, took me close to 45 minutes and almost broke some clips inside.
2) MTKflash didnt do shit and I had a Nforce 4 mobo. Finally after everything failed, I flashed my motherboard bios to the latest default one from MSI. I was running a modded bios earlier for the extra timings and advanced settings.
3) Used kdx 1.5 to extract my dvd key and it gave me the wrong key. Finally had to manually hexedit the firmware and copy the key to the xtreme fw.

tested using my retail PDZ DVD and Motogp TFG release.

Good times. I used my old Liteon 812s burner which was firmware flashed to 832s. Not only burns dual layer now, but also bitsets to DVD-ROM and now It has also given me a working 360 backup.

There were times last nite when I was considering getting a new SATA card and also a Pioneer writer. Boy am I glad I saved $80 due to my patience. I feel good!!!

Haha good job, I'll jump on the 360 bandwagon when they allow the loading of dvd images from a harddrive. Wink

I think ther'es new kit now that lets you do it without dismantling you're 360... might have to get one of these 360 things after Christmas in the price-drop, should be a larger amount of good games then too.

edit.. oh yeh, and it connects to PC USB too, so no need for a particular chip-set SATA connection.

I looked up "gormless" in the dictionary, it said "without gorm" .... so i looked up "gorm" but it wasn't there ????

Omg sounds hard! But I can't believe it's so hard to open the xbox and fuck the harddrive out!

And is the flashing so hard? I heard it's possible with a program in 4-5steps and finish Smile

Same here. And allow us to use our 100gig+ laptop drives to store 'em. Even images of games we own would be awesome. Those freaking load times on most 360 games are really a pain, plus worrying about discs scratching, taking the beast in the car, playing music at the same time, etc. etc. So many good reasons for storing images on the thing.

I doubt the x360 will ever be as hacked as the xbox.

With the xbox we got it all, bigger hdd's, games from hdd and all that stuff. Wonder if it will ever happen with the 360... Sad

flashing is not hard and it really does take less than an hour but if you have one of those quirky motherboards or sata cards, then its a lot of trial and error because each setup is different.

I think we will see HD's soon but not the usb type or external it will be a sata drive and you probably have to keep the ugly thing sitting onto of the machine.

I took two nights to flash mine cause my VIA SATA didnt work as expected. Good times Very Happy

Just flashed to 3.2 and testing the full speed backups. Sweet. After 3 months of not opening my 360 it all came back to me in in a flash and it took less than a minute to open it.

First timers: Just remember you only need to unscrew the 6 or so long screws that hold the other half of the shell in place, NOT the ones that hold the mobo and heatsinks in place.
