A&E has given a green light to an adaptation of the French TV series Les Revenants aka The Returned, to be penned by Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Raelle Tucker (True Blood).
A&E has ordered 10 episodes straight to series, with Cuse set to write the pilot and exec-produce alongside Tucker.
Small town community. Somehow affected by misterious force. Someone is missing/appearing. Teenage drinking/fucking/relationship drama combined with some adult bullshit characters, obligatory hot chick, obligatory good dude with dark past, obligatory rebelious outsider, you get the point.
Lost, Jericho, Under the dome, recently The Leftovers and Walking dead also can easily be put in that category + I`m sure I`ve forgot about some. Is it that hard to come up with something more original? I bet there are tons of books/stories which arent based on same old formulas and are worth translating to TV screen.
Obviously I wouldnt mind if the show will turn out to be great, but one have to admit that it looks just like all those shows made with the same scheme, tho I dont have any knowledge about Les Revenants, just read on that plot summary which looks like it looks, and those names (Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Raelle Tucker (True Blood)) dont exactly sound that great either :<

Watch it first. This is the American description and I'm sure The Returned will in fact fuck it up and be nowhere naer as good.
But Les Revenants definitely does not fall into that standard 'murica teen shit.

There is some confusion regarding these tv shows.
Les Revenants was inspired by a mediocre french movie ("Les Revenants" 2004) directed by Robin Campillo.
A&E is making Les Revenants TV series remake.
ABC's "Resurrection" is based on the Jason Mott’s novel ("The Returned") that is kinda similar to the French movie/TV series but actually is different.
By the look of things it's just a "copy-paste" remake of the original French TV series. If you haven't watched the original version I suggest that you watch it first. Although the US remake hasn't been released yet it seems it might be inferior to the original tv show, well, it's my impression based on this trailer.
Getting really confused with all these shows - From what i gathered its:
This one is adaption of the French show called Les Revenants (The Returned) from 2012.
Resurrection is adaptation of unrelated American book named The Returned from 2013.
Les Revenants from 2012 was adaption of a French movie of the same name from 2004.
The American The Returned book probably drew inspiration from that 2004 movie aswell.
According to the producers the show is very similar for the first 5-6 episodes but goes in it's own direction after that.
Well, let's see whether they've fucked it up or not...

Exactly this. Plus, the actress playing Claire (twins' mom) is plain awful (even more so compared to her french counterpart). Rest is not that bad (some pretty good performers like Mark Pellegrino, Michelle Forbes, etc.) but without the eerie atmosphere of the original it turns out very lacking.
