Just to confirm the game does as reloaded says install drivers. You must agree to install "Additional Components" to play. I dont remember installing drivers in reloadeds king kong release but this one definately has them. Its a great game but I dont think Ill keep the drivers on Sad Could somebody here confirm the drivers are fine as long as no cd is needed to play or will they still fuck up windows?

Thanks

Nick

The drivers will be installed and used by Starforce protection, the only difference is that you dont need original CD to play. If you afraid Starforce will blow up your PC then skip this release Razz

PostPosted: Fri, 27th Oct 2006 20:01    Post subject: SF driver suck :(
*cry* does this means Reloaded will never make a REAL crack for this game =(

i'm not sure if SF can blow up computers but i heard it can permanently slow down windows (even after a clean windows install and until you use a new hard drive) and that it screws with exitisng drivers and applications so that you will get blue screens when trying to burn anything.
also heard that you also have to uninstall any burning application if it has any virtual cd/dvd function.
some people also say that some Creative, Realtek, Intel and Via sound chips start to crackel in any application after installing SF.
someone also said thatany external drives will no longer work, not even flashdrives, that it just says "unknown error" when you plug in usb or firewire drives. not sure but someone else said that when you have more then 4 network connections open at the same time you will get a blue screen of death. apperently it also messes with the device manager and registry editor so that you can"t 'show hidden devices' and the registry editor will crash on anything but the "current user" key.

supposedly even after using starforce removel tools windows will still randomly crash with a BSOD and it still be slower when doing anything and then when copying files "system" will use 90% cpu and evrything starts to lag and that it takes 5 minutes for just 100MB.

also heard that using winrar after a SF install corrupts any file that where opened, even if they are locked and nothing was extracted. also heard that it removes any nfo file extension assosication and maps it back to szstem information and that your computer will just reboot if that fails to open the nfo.

not sure about this but i also heard that any mp3's that you try to play while having SF installed will increase in size and hissing and poping is added, everytime you play the mp3 it gets worse.

in any case, i think i will still hope that someone, somehow will make a no-SF crack for this.. otherwise i will just have to skipp the Sunrise series of games Sad

I didn't hear so much bullshit in one post since I blocked local spammers. Having said that, I dont see how that information has anything to do with this game.

ok so it may be BS but i don't feel like finding out that just one of those things is true Wink
starforce even admitted to hooking ide drivers and forcing them into pio mode which could account for the performance degradation... and of course anything they do is at ring0 so on screw up means bsod.. and considering that they do most of their driver communication with exception interupts it's a wonder it isn't a lot worse...

well i think it has to do with the game (or rather this release) becuase you have to INSATLL those Starforce drivers to use the game.. no starforce install = no playing sunrise

Firstly, learn to spell. Second, the way it's been cracked requires the drivers, but only to trick the exe & dll's into thinking it's Starforce proper. It's the same with their Cold War crack, it needs the drivers - but no adverse effects since the exe's don't actually use them.

of course not

all protections for games these days install drivers and none will make problems with anything if you dont use cracking tools. Its all just bs rumor. The only thing possible is that some can run a backdoor or so during the cd check when starforce goes into kernel code level but everything else is normal but to save your day a backdoor coder that can exactly get the code running within the starforce cpu counter borders (they count cpu operations and if you do to much during check its not working and protection stops the game) wouldnt be so lesss payed that he needs to code backdoor scripts Smile. So for the question running anything using sf or tages or securom or safedisc or protectdvd or whatever protection that installs drivers on your system wont hurt your pc hardware.

The question just is - is this crack scene legit? i would say no as the protection isnt fullly removed but who cares here about it. Starforce did a good job making it so long not avaiable as a cracked version. thats all what counts and gives developers hope for the next trackmania stage.
