 |
Source: http://www.xboxscene.com/
There has been many changes done to the new Hitachi GDR-3120L - Version: 0078fk drive.
#1: No "memdump" command works, totally new program needed
#2: Chip type has been changed to a 39VF020, so new "flashsec" program needed
#3: Black hard glue has been added covering all the chip pins and the controller pins.
#4: External "debug" triggering into ModeB has been removed.
What does all mean:
#1: The Team-X kit will no longer work on this drive.
#2: Dumping the firmware by software is currently not possible
#3: Wiring in a patching-on-the-fly "mod" would be very hard due to the "new black glue"
#4: Removing the flash chip to externally be read will destory the drive due to the "new black glue"
What options are left to us:
#1: Get more people working on this new drive, currently only in UK and Aussie.
#2: Destory at one drive to be able to dump the firmware, using a external programmer.
#3: Afterwards sitting down and re-writing all the programs: "memdump, firmcrypt, flashsec".
#4: If you can't wait, buy an older produced x360 console (Before Late July/Early Aug. dates).
That's all for now....
We are working on it....
Hopefully some poor soul will give us one personally...
So we can destory it and play with it for everyone else....(Garyopa)

I just hope MS don't mess up my firmware hack on the next update in novemeber.
But think about this.. Why haven't MS made any updates to block the working FW ? They could have done that like months ago with a simple live update or some kind of update boundle with a game. Seems that MS have lost the fight against ppl with older drivers. So they are shipping out new DVD drivers that are harder to hack. Just my though.

I think the decision is more based on Economics. Consider the amount and quality of games that have come so far. We dont yet have a kille rgame like Halo or GTA for the 360, that will compell people to go out there and get a 360. On the other hand, how many people have bought the 360 just because it could be hacked and you can play these games for free? Also do you think if the 360 was unhackable, people would have even considered games like Kameo, PDZ, TDU, etc and better still, would these games have made people go and get a 360? I think the November update will not block old 360s, they will just make the newer ones secure, that way they do not lose the Christmas shoppers to the PS3 and the Wii. maybe in 2007, once the big games come, they might do something. In the end this is just speculation, but I still think its not their inability, but their decision not to block the hacks.

I think MS should handle this the same as old xboxes. IF its moded, Your banned on Live. ITs one thing to burn games, its another thing to play burned games on live.
IMO though, MS cant effectivly block or detect the FM mod, becasue it would be to risky dumping or reflashing the firmware via an update. It could lead to alot of bad publicity if MS releases a firmware patch, and something goes wrong.

I totally agree, its not worth the headache for the customers who didn't patch the firmware, its far to risky a move on MS's part.. But I guess we shall see..

yup when the FW is being dumped for a checksum routine there's always a possibility it glitches and even a non modded box returns an invalid checksum. If it can produce false positives they might not do it like that

Why? To me there's no difference. It's ok to play pirated games in singleplayer mode but when you're playing online mutliplayer you should buy it? I never understood this opinion. That's a really weird moral standpoint. It doesn't make any sense to me. If anything, you should buy the games you enjoy in singleplayer because a multiplayer mode/game isn't half as much work to develop.

True enough, But sofar i have bought all my X360 games, but i see what your saying. But i feel that way becasue Multiplayer alot of times makes games last longer, and hence people play them longer vs many games i have DL for PC, i may play the single player once or twice. Its like i DL BF2 emp released, tried it in single player, liked it, so i bought it for multiplayer. IF your really going to get into a game enough to play mutiplayer, you should buy it. Heck if you really get into a single player game, you should buy it. Guess i could have worded my previous post better.

the only reason peole was banned on xbox1 on live is becasue in that case files could be modified and hacks implementeda nd all the general homebrew stuff, the total security was at risk, in the 360's case everything is still digitally signed and cannot be modified and no risk to Live or cheating.
Thats how i see it anyway.
