What makes it better?

I've only used fraps and have had no issues. It has lots of options but isn't free.
I'd say try out both gamecam and fraps and tell us what you like better.

You already answered, Esel - it has a lot more options. And it runs better. I tried many recording software when we needed to make vids of our DX9-based real-time 3D apps quickly (without frame-by-frame rendering) and gamecam showed best performance and best vid quality. Later on I compared it to fraps when recording some BF2 shit and I liked gamecam vids more. Still it's a question of personal prteference.

lamecam seems awfully unintuitive
everything is hidden in obscurity
as far as i can tell, it encodes directly to wmv?
doesn't feel very optimal
uneditable and lossy
but i guess it's what you need it for that determines your needs

it encodes to whatever you want. either RTFM or just fiddle with the options.

p.s. unintuitive my ass! it's as simple as it can be
