Was thinking (very easy or a hardcore cannibis smoker lol), i'd imagaine it wouldnt be so hard, to create a game, consisting of Elite, C&C and 1st person shooter objective. Basically, u have the freedom to travel a universe (or solar system, if thats too much), upgrade your ships, travel to space cities (or just cities) walk around, have an option to play the game as feewill, or follow one of the many subplots, or storyline that is in the game. Start a revolution, getting men(or women) working for you, building an army, sending out various ships to other planets or systems, taking over, then when the war scenes happen, be like C&C, but can say double click on a character, becomes 1st person. I see unlimited options with a game like this. So much promise, could still add another million ideas to it. Games like this arent far from us I'd imagine, just that the developers arent being given enough money to research, and being pressured with deadlines. In the early 90's I though games like this would definatly be out by 2000, but so many meant to be GREAT games, just never live up to expectations. On a side note, Im suprised a GREAT BOXING MANAGEMENT game hasn't been made yet. World Championship Boxing on the ATARI ST/AMIGA/PC was a GREAT game, why cant game developers create games like this, instead of the 'TYCOON' FPS boring games!!! What u think?

You make a random statement? With no basis? Basically, you saying a game like this is not possible. If I was in a position of power to create games, I'd employ a bunch of teenage kids, getting to draw up a few games, then get my development team on it, within 3 years, concepts be laid, 4 years after that, the ultimate games would start arriving. Thing is though, would have done this 8 years ago, instead of copying all the dooms and C&C's. would've moulded them all forever. Who likes buying the same car every year, full price, but it only changes color. I'd prefer to wait for the next version.

my favourite game would be a mix of: Elite + Pirates! (original) + Fallout + battlefield1942.

So, Your character moves around in first person view. background would be post nuclear age. You can have drugs kill kids, have prostitute working for u to make money. Each city (or vault) would have its own army that would engage in fights against other cities for territorial domination using all means. You can also trade between far cities by the means of 16s century repaired ships that use a mix of sails and steam, and struggle against pirates.
You can also explore and maybe discover strange technologies, such as a starship buried near some old abandoned city and make use of it..

Regarding games as entertainment. Basically games are still such a young media that you could compare it to what movies was 60 years ago. Back then you mainly had mainstream movies that everyone could understand so that the movie would be somewhat a guaranteed success.

Back then and about 20 years forward you had very concrete genre's, SCI-FI was SCI-FI, adventure was adventure, action was action and comedy was comedy. People went to the movies to see either a war, a bunch of jokes, some spooky aliens or some cowboys riding horses. They did not go to see them all. It's only the latest 30 or so years that we've seen alot more risks taken in movies, alot of them have bombed but some have redefined moviemaking.

The same thing with games today, 90% of the developers dont want to risk two years work and millions of dollars on something that might end up taking a face first into the bottom of the budget-barrel.

Developers go for the sure shots, delivering updated re-runs for the masses. Sure they could try to make a Space sim + RPG + FPS + RTS but first of all it would probably take four times longer to develop. Secondly it would most probably not be a big hit, cause not all FPS-fans likes to play space-sims, not all RPG-fans like to play RTS and so on and so forth.

So basically, im sure it COULD be done and im sure it will be done, but we wont be seeing it for a long while.

As a fair sportsfan, my ultimate game must be a 1stPerson Soccergame, online only , 22 players and a referee, blood, broken bones, lots of cards, a lot of violence and crying (hating) , some hooligan cutscenes and a nice online league. I would be very pleased.

@ Soundtrak: nice ideas you have, but when it comes to the financial side, especially in an EA´s world, it will be difficult to create such a game.....sure ,sooner or later developers will make the ultimate game....

look what happended to the STALKER Devs, they wanted to create an Übergame, and now the whole gamecommunity is laughing about their endless, maybe "outdated" project.
