HEh. Alarm is set for 4:45. I wake up at 5. Shower. And sit on a chair staring at a blank wall for an hour. Leave for school. Get home at 7:30 if I’m lucky. Stay up till 12. Rinse and repeat. Razz

For me to sleep really good I have to have an active day. The moon phases don't do much for my sleep. Any visible moon tho is nice to look at before I go to bed. Especially if it is a bit foggy like this time of year. Hallow'een the moon is always beautiful with the leaves on the ground. When I walk my dog now I have to walk through piles of leaves. It is really cool. Oh and all the mushrooms are out now. I should bring my camera but I keep forgetting.

You know when you are working nightshift in the hospital all the crazy stuff happens on a full moon. Every full moon the emerg is full, and full with the weirdest stuff too. Ask anybody who works in a hospital.

There are so many theories on that, and I am sure you know them

You know what I think is cool. The tides. The high highs, the Low low's, the low highs, the high lows. And then depending on where the moon is you have the high, high, highs. Low highs being the rebound waves of the high highs. A truly amazing cycle. It is kinda like the personality of a person.

My makeshift theory is that the moon creates some kind of tidal activity in the brain causing people to go a bit strange.

Man i remember when in kindergarden they had us take a nap everyday, we had to ley down and close our eyes, they called it nap time, i always said to myself that i would never fall asleep, but i always did! damn, i thought they used magic or something to make me fall asleep Smile

In kindergarden we never did math or reading or had any tests, we would just draw pictures and make things Smile

I really miss kindergarden now Sad , and i feel sorry for all those kids who don't get to draw pictures and make things, but do test after test after test Crying or Very sad

Doesn’t the sap in trees go up & down with the moons fazes too ?

I believe no. That would be the capillary action of xylem and phlem tissue. Something to do with evaporation pulling nutrients up the tree and something to do with solute concentration/osmosis in the root and soil.

Heat makes sap flow, it opens the pores (stomata) causing the evaporation which starts up the whole process.

I think the moon to the trees is like a giant clock that never needs to be wound. The moon is the only consistant companion in a trees life, there at birth, during life, and at death.

This whole 'the moon can affect our moods' is actually a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Not disputing the whole increase in crazy incidents on full moons but I think it has more a psychological effect than a physiological one. People see a full moon and are psychologically affected and those who are already inclined to do 'nutty' things tend to see the full moon as a green light to go totally nuts. Very Happy

The 'real' effects of the moon's gravitational force are the two high-tides per day that we have on earth. If crazy behaviour was indeed a result of the moon's gravity then we would have two peaks per day.

do you think the oceans tides are doing it themselves too .. Shocked .. or are we immune to the effects of the moon that cause tides .. because we have thinking caps ?

Huh? OK let's give it another try.

The moon does have an effect on the tides. Happens two times a day. Caused by gravity of the moon and relative position to the sun and the earth. Has nothing to do with the phase of the moon at that time. If 'strange' behaviour in humans were caused by the gravity of the moon then that too would happen twice a day. It doesn't; atleast I hope it doesn't.

The peak in 'crazy' incidents happens on full-moons. The size of the moon doesn't change, ie the gravity of the moon doesn't change on that day. So 'tidal' effect on humans shouldn't be more than any other day. But empirical evidence indicates otherwise. Only thing different about the moon on those days is the phase. Therefore it must be a visual/pschological thing.

No, Only the high-high tide is the one that would effect people if in fact they were affected by the gravitational forces of the moon. The other high tide you are talking about is the High-low tide. That is basically a rebound wave off the high-high tide, an after effect.

You need to look at a tide chart and you will see what I mean.

@pistol

I know that the two high-tides are not equal in magnitude however they are higher than other times of the day.

Yes, but the high-high tide is the one that uses the moons gravity, that is the one that would be affecting people. Once every 24 hrs not 2 times

Think of a bunch of people in a pool and they all rush to one side of the pool. They create a big wave as they go. This wave hits the side of the pool and even tho the people remain stationary, the wave rebounds back until it hits the opposite wall. It is higher but not as high at the first wave with the rush of people.

Think of the people as the moon. They only crossed the pool once but yet there were 2 waves.

It is hard to explain.
