After experiencing horrible stuttering in Gothic 3, I looked around my system and noticed that my video card, network adapter and Sata controller all share the same IRQ number, but not conflicting. I googled for a while, and figured out that windows XP uses ACPI to assign 24 IRQs instead of the physical 15 that are available...some kind of virtualization or Bill knows what...anyway, it cannot be changed manually unless you actually reinstall windows without ACPI. So, the question is whether this is okay or it might hinder my VGA performance? I disabled my Network adapter from Device manager and rerun Gothic 3 to see if it will make an impact and didn't see any improvement, but than again, I'm not sure it frees the IRQ when disabled that way. Anyone got a clue?

Thanks.

I doubt this would be causing any issues like the ones you are describing, IRQ issues will generally just crash a machine full stop. The ACPI functionality in XP works very well, its an odd occasion when things go wrong and that is usually caused by hardware faults anyway..

Generally speaking you're right.
I've simply stumbled uppon a forum post that was talking about IRQ oversharing and how that could cause problems, so I figured it's worth checking out. But, again, I assume it's not a problem.

I think that general stutter is just a general bad unoptimized game...Just whait for like 2 or patches and it might be ok...Alot of other games will come out during that time but Wink

I always prefer to check myself first before I critisize others Smile Except that, on first glance it looked plausible.
