Alright, heres the deal. I've got 512mb 266mhz (256x2) of RAM and Im plannin on getting a 1gb stick. So, should I go for a 1gb 333mhz stick or a 266mhz one and use it with my old 256mb stick? Which one will give me better performance, 1024mb 333mhz or 1024+256mb 266mhz?

you'll definately benefit from more ram, specially considering the timings are not that different. Why not buy a 333mhz one, and then see whats better for you?

If you run the 333 and the 266 together, the 333 will run at 266 anyway - and the price between 266 and 333 is nothing (at least here in the UK).

I would consider going up to 400 if you can though, and maybe getting more than 1gb. Guess it all depends on your situation Smile

Hmmmm, nice idea. So, if I use the 333mhz stick with the 266mhz one, wont I have any problems? Coz a friend of mine did this and he had quite a few problems...

My mobo doesnt support 400mhz and I cant afford anything more than 1gb. Crying or Very sad

I would go for 333Mhz. Then you can try it with the 266Mhz, it may switch the 333Mhz to 266Mhz if you're lucky. Then again you may get problems.

GO for 333mhz, At least if you go with 333mhz now maybe in the future you might get another gb stick of 333mhz.

Only problem is most motherboards dont like certain ram or mixed ram. Im running 2x Corsair 512 Extreme DDR (1gb total) and its great. Only thing Is I think I need another gig of ram as most new games use up 512mb Ram to store stuff in leaving me with only 512mb free for running the game and all the background crap (Eg Doom3 and Quake 4 when set to ultra settings)

Finally got my 1gb 400mhz stick! My mobo supports upto 333mhz, so im wasting about 67mhz...
Now, Dark Messiah works like a charm and Gothic 3s a lot better, didnt expect this much of a performance boost! Very Happy

Which gives better results (1024+256)@266 or 1024@333? Guess you would have to run some memory benchmark to find out.
