Quote:
Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, literally "Alchemist of Steel"), is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa. The world of Fullmetal Alchemist is styled after the European Industrial Revolution. Set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques known to man, the story follows the brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, who want to restore their bodies after a disastrous failed attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy.

This was the second adaptation from the manga and stayed close to the manga this time.
First adaptation differed greatly since the manga was not yet finished.
I decided to give it its own topic here now the series has been finished, it consists of 64 epsiodes.
I personally enjoyed it very much, was looking forward to the next episode each week Smile

Does it have lots of new stuff later on?
I watched the first bunch of episodes but most of it was things that I've already seen in the other version, even if it's slightly different sometimes.... I knew exactly what was going to happen for 90% of the episodes which was pretty boring.

That was my first impression of the series as well, I saw exactly the same from the earlier adaptation but after episode 10 or so the story lines really begin to differ and the episodes really enjoyed me.

Cool, I'll stick with it then.

I thought the original series was pretty cool even though sometimes things don't make a lot of sense, especially concerning the alchemist's powers.
It's like one second they can do insane huge spells taking out 50 enemy guys at once and the next they gotta revert to melee combat for no apparent reason other than the story requiring them to be in a life threatening situation.

It's like the *rules* of alchemy only apply when the writers felt like it which makes the whole thing a bit less engaging for me.

But yeah definitely good entertainment, so I'll continue watching the second adaption here as well Smile

wow are you late on this.

and no nothing converts anti-anime people. it'll only give people on the fence a reason to jump to the anime side.

overall i loved it, it was great.

i always grabbed the eclipse versions, theyre definately the best release out (always sucked having to wait an extra day or 3 because they always take more time than raze...

sad that its finished, i was really loving it - im not the kinda guy who grabs eps weekly religiously... i wait till the shows finished... but with this one, every monday my leg was jackhammering and i was FFFFFFFFFfffffffffff'ing because the ep wasnt out yet Very Happy Very Happy

now roll out the dual audio 1080's!

I'm pretty sure it was around the end of episode 14 or 15 actually. Be aware that the story diverges wildly from the original.

Does this use more or less the same english voiceactors as the original? FMA was one of the few anime(s?) I preferred to watch with english dubs.

weird. maybe the only anime they ever saw was fucking pokemon or something. i can understand how that shit turns people off anime... even stuff like dbz can turn you off anime if youre not used to it...

Personally, what turns me off anime is the art style. I realise some animes have really great and mature stories but the way characters look is so fucking annoying to me.

that big huge super large round mega sized eye style i flat out cant watch... like that girl in this, but i can kinda tolerate it here because its one character, but that style makes me want to throw up.

i heard great things about black lagoon, so i grabbed the 720s... honestly i dont understand why people think its so great... dont get me wrong, i dont hate it, i like the characters, but most of the stories are pretty empty and boring... season 3 ep 1 just came out so ill see if its an improvement.

i did like the english dub though.. the dialog was fucking hilariously over the top... but as an anime, ive seen much better.

well i watched the first roberta ep... interesting to see they STILL cant make a half decent opening credit sequence for that show... need to see more before i can say if its an improvement over season 2 i guess.

hard to get used to the jap voices though, given that i thought the english voice dub was great, especially how over the top revy was. i hated that kid though, hope hes not in this TOO much... he was a pain in the ass. not too keen on roberta, but meh whatever.

and yes so what, ive hijacked a dead topic, so what Wink

the topic wasn't dead!

I watched a few more episodes of FMA:B and it seems that episode 14 is the big turning point.
Before then it was very very very familiar but at episode 14 things just go in a very different direction.
Looks good!

thanks for making me watch some more episodes, iconized Smile
