To those brave Hungarians who fought against adversity in the face of a brutal govenment and an occupying force fifty years ago today.
The relevance of this today is an interesting one. Is this what the Iraqi population believe is what is happening today in their own country.
In fifty years from now, could we be seeing a similar celebration in Baghdad?
But that is indeed another subject.
Congrats to any Hungarian, should they populate this forum.

Funny you should mention this
I have some hungarian in me on my moms side. My..grandmother i think, escaped the revolution in the late 40's/early 50's, went to france and married my grandfather who then moved to quebec and started his life here.
(i think thats how it went)
Hungary is in turmoil again tho. Their politicians are really corrupt. That one guy basically said he lied to get elected and shit...horrible.

In Chile happen exactly the same. The mayority of the chilean folk rised against a communist tiranny. That happen a 9/11 year 1973.
But, yeah, its Warzaw Spring now!!
@syco. many more goverments are in the same situation. I would say, USA for example. The fact is that, in Hungary, it made public, the people can protest openly against such abominations. In USA you get "questioning" by the Internal Affairs Office. So, it deserves another UP for Hungary!! |
As I recall, recently, the prime minister (or whatever you call the hungarian leader) was recorded on microphone saying something to the effect that his party lied to get into office and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
Saw it like last week on CNN or CBC
To bluntly say that is disgusting. I think the guy/party should be prosecuted.
Atleast Bush hasnt admitted to fixing either election...

this was really a better alternative?
military dictatorship FTL
Quote: | His opponents charge him with destroying Chile's democracy, pursuing a policy of state terrorism in which thousands of opponents were killed and tortured, catering exclusively to private interests, and adopting economic policies that favored the wealthy and hurt the country's middle- and low-income sectors. |
|
there was the ONLY alternative on that times...
against 10.000 armed foreigners from vietnam, cuba and other commi states that pululated in the streets, terrorizing the free people and preparing to take the marxist revolution to a new order, yes. a civilian military response was the only alternative. Don't forgett that a vas mayority claimed for a military intervention.
The problem afterwards, was that most politicians (who asked formely to the military to intervene) were expecting that the mlitary returns the goverment to the politicians.
instead, Pinochet leaded the goverment for 16 years.
why 16 years? it a looong time for a dictatorial goverment... but not so long for a dictatory totalitarism, as what many pretend to show.
for instance, he is the only dictator so far in modern history, that decided to go freely from the goverment, by an election he convoqued and lost...
so, he was a dictator. but not a totalitarist.
under his regime died many, and many inocents, yes; but a samall fraction from the ones that may have died in the marxist total out revolution.
besides, many oppositors to the commi regime died too...
not the best way to expel the totalitarists (commis) from the power... but i repeat, the only way that gave at that time. and personaly, i don't like living into a commi regime, unleast, im a relative to the commi "president", or friend, or someone with roots there...
