Is it worth buying? As Glottis says; absolutely - but don't ask us, find out for yourself with the free weekend already mentioned by Bart1983. A perfect opportunity for you to find out. But, is it really worth having a separate topic? I think you'll find more substantial opinions in the proper TF2 thread where a question like this really belongs.

Ispep, this game is great mate.
But it.
Get the orange box, all hl games plus peggle and portal(which i haven't played yet).
For about 20 pounds the lot i think it was, goto steampowered games for it and download it all.

It was a rhetorical question Very Happy I already own the orange box (I even put a review for it up in nforces review section).

I purchased it when it was in Beta, so you got to play beta and then continue on to real game without waiting.

It gold old after a few months of the same maps, and i had learned the classes by then.

Then they released a few updates, some being unlocks, and the new game modes, where u push a cart instead of capture areas.

That had me playing for a while, now i will play when the heavy update comes out, then get bored after 3 months and wait for the next update.

Buy it though!

The clarification of arena was disappointing. I was hoping for something a little more substantial, and the new landscape isn't a huge digression from what they were already doing either. I was selfishly hoping for more (perhaps a fundamentally new game mode and environment, such as in space) but in the end it's a free update, so no complaints as such.

Definitely. It's my favorite online fps I've ever played. I love the artistic style of the graphics. I love the class system. It's ridiculous how balanced everything is. And with the slow updates of unlockables and new maps it's just getting better.

Team Fortress 2 Update Released (8/19/2008)

August 19, 2008, 2:30 pm - Jason Ruymen - Product Update

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Added 3 Heavy unlockables

* Natascha, The Sandvich, The Killing Gloves of Boxing
* Added 35 new Heavy achievements

Added Arena game mode

* 5 arenas: Lumberyard, Ravine, Well, Granary, Badlands

Added 2 new maps

* Badwater Basin, a new payload map
* cp_steel, a community map by Jamie "Fishbus" Manson

Changes

* Added server map timeleft to upper right of scoreboard
* Added new firing sounds to The Backburner
* Removed the Custom Tab in the serverbrowser, and added the Tags field to the base Internet Tab
* Increased The Kritzkrieg's uber-charge rate bonus from 10% to 25%
* 32 player servers can now support an extra slot of SourceTV
* Made the freezecam item panel description easier to read
* Players now broadcast whether they chose a team directly or use autoteam
* Added proper handling of cart blocking recognition to Payload maps

Bug fixes

* Fixed bug where switching from flaregun-wielding Pyro to another class meant you didn't get a full ammo loadout on first spawn
* Fixed Spy watch arm not using team skins
* Fixed weapon switching preventing you from using secondary attacks for a 0.2s window after the primary became available
* Fixed players getting stuck in a bad animation state when class switching while spinning the minigun
* Fixed a loophole that allowed players to pickup weapons of other classes
* Fixed a bug that resulted in players earning more crit chance bonus in large, single damage events than they are supposed to
* Fixed an issue with the floating HUD +X health indicators that resulted in them appearing incorrectly
* Fixed a bug which caused the minigun spinning & firing sounds to occasionally stop while the Heavy was still firing
* Fixes the Loadout player model panel causing the in-game player facial animation to perform incorrectly
* Fixed spectators not having the target ID labels display correctly
* Fixed the cart alarm sound occasionally getting stuck on in Payload maps

I'm curious on why your so harsh on it? I played it on one of the free weekends and I too certainly didn't fall in love with it but it was a mediocre game but certainly not hideous. Honestly its just a dumbed down version of TFC with a new engine and cartoon graphics. It did provide some fun however.

valve should've kept the original concept for TF, and make what is now TF2 as an individual ip

but strategic decisions ftw - TF name sold/sells good Razz

tf2 is fun, an im glad i bought it. Sure , its not a game you play as much as cs or q3 back then, but that isnt necessarily a bad thing imo. Its fun to play every now and then for some time. fun.
