remove the searchbar and right-click into the google, wikipedia etc. searchbars and select add search and assign a letter or two, that way you can just type 'g whatever' into the addressbar to google for whatever
to filter ads you can add addresses and wildcards to the Opera\profile\urlfilter.ini
or use this one http://rapidshare.com/files/468471/urlfilter.ini.html (I just put the FF adblock plus stuff in there)

I ran into problems with Firefox 2.0 (memory leaks even after closing it out, requiring reboots to fix). This happened multiple times. I finally downgraded when I ended up losing data because of the freeze. I tried to reproduce the problem with 1.5 but of course that didn't happen. Plus my Mac-style theme is not compatible with 2.0 due to some changes in the way themes are designed. The default theme and the other themes available for 2.0 are terrible.
SECURITY ISSUES IN OLD VERSION OH BOOHOO, the phishing filter is weak at best in 2.0 and FF is getting more and more suited for dumbasses anyway, people who don't know shit about anything. And of course most of these people are gonna use IE6 or 7 when it shows up as an automatic update for XP. Then it will ask them to set IE7 as default browser, and they will hit yes. That's the end of Firefox there, it might be slightly unfortunate to the user count, but in the end, the more users, the more possible problems to encounter. It's like Linux and Windows; people say Linux is immune to viruses and spyware (it's not) but as soon as it becomes world standard peole will write the software and some other "hippie-looking" group will want to start some other from-scratch OS so they can say that that OS is virus immune.
It's also much like users of Maxthon browser; I feel as though a lot of the users are thinking "Firefox sold out" or "Firefox got too popular now, I gotta use something different to be unique." Because of the small chance of someone actually exploiting a vulnerability in that browser, you do end up a lot more immune to it; I'm also sure some users feel Firefox will be the next IE (eventually) and it will be looked at the way IE is looked at today (as vulnerable, and entirely dismissable). I can see this happening too, but not for a long time.
Please let me know what you think of the future of Firefox as a mainstream browser.
