Quote: | FilmEngine and Benderspink are teaming to reboot 2004′s “The Butterfly Effect” with original writer-director Eric Bress on board to pen the new script.
Producers are A.J. Dix, Anthony Rhulen, Chris Bender and JC Spink, as they did on the original, along with Film Engine president Navid McIllhargey. No director is yet attached.
The original sci-fi thriller, starring Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart, was a solid performer for New Line with a worldwide box office of $96 million on a budget of $13 million along with a pair of direct-to-DVD sequels.
Bress and J. Mackeye Gruber co-directed and co-wrote the original. Kutcher portrayed a character who had the ability to travel back in time and change the present by changing what he had done in his past — but found that changing several childhood traumas created unintended consequences.
New Line-based Benderspink produced “We’re the Millers,” starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis. |
Personally I thought the original was crap but I know that some people for whatever reason loved it.

original movie was enjoyable enough, and i wasnt under the impression that it was THAT big of a money-maker that it warrants a reboot. someone REALLY REEAALLLY must be low on ideas.
i suspect that this one will be rewritten to include explosions and robot battles though.
actually come to think about it, id be all for taking the idea and putting into a new setting, thats exactly what a reboot should be...

Well in the OP it says it made $96 million which is 7+ times more money than its budget, which is pretty damn great. Home video sales not included!
In comparison The Avengers made $1.5 billion but its profit vs budget ratio is a little less than 7, so The Butterfly Effect was the more "money efficient" film!

I will never get the point of remaking such recent and still modern movies (both in terms of visuals and style)..I know that Hollywood doesn't have new ideas anymore, but this is too much even for their standards.
PS. I thought the original was quite enjoyable

wasnt talking about return on investment (in other words didnt say the original wasnt profitable - in fact i checked out its takings before i made the post ), i just mean i didnt think the idea had the blockbuster appeal to warrant a remake.
in fact i think the first one probably did so well primarily because of kutchers name, didnt it? he was pretty 'big' at the time.

I also enjoyed the original, second one not so much and third was just plain stupid.
Maybe with the right actors it could turns out good. I hope they wont fuck this one up.

If it is without Ashton Kutcher, I'll give it a try.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

can't these fuckers come up with something new instead ? I don't mind reboots of 30 year old movies (like planet of the apes) , but "rebooting" something not even 10 years later ... fucking lazy cunts lol.
