Config: A64 3000+, nvidia 6600GT, 1GB RAM, Windows XP SP2 and all hotfixes+lastest drivers installed, and kinda lot proggies installed too.

Problem: When I delete a shortcut, which points to a no-more-existing file, windows tries to find it. It pop-ups a window saying "missing shortcut, you can locate it blabla." And this doesn't happen with working shortcuts. Things I found out with File Monitor and these happen only with non-working shortcuts:
Process: svchost.exe Request: Open Path: C:[Object ID] Result: SUCCESS
Process: svchost.exe Request: Query information Path: C:\?????????
Process: svchost.exe Request: Close Path: C:\?????????
But it says all of 'em succeeded, so it might not be with this, it's the only easy-to-spot difference between working and non-working shortcuts. There's other events too, all by explorer.exe. Some of these requests fail, but there also are fails with working shortcuts too.

O ye.. Reinstalling WXP would definately help, but I'm too lazy to do it. So, please, don't say reinstall your xp >_>

Thanks for help!

EDIT: I noticed also that it doesn't appear if you delete a non-working shortcut and a file. But if you delete two non-working shortcuts, it appears. This is rly weird.

Sounds strange, so when you try to delete a shortcut, it brings up an error saying it's missing the shortcut? Could you give the exact error message you get? It's not the error about the a filename being too long is it?

Yea, it gives me the error of missing shortcut. Like this
Code:

, but the filename is different. It's the name of the file where the shortcut points to.

I tested this by placing a file in the root of the drive, make a shortcut, then there appeared different kind of deleting shortcut screen, titled with "problem with the shortcut." And there's a magnifying glass instead of that red exclamation mark. And it appears twice, even if I click no(=no, I don't want to delete it). After that it pop-ups the "real" remove file/shortcut screen with that red exclamation mark. And with shortcuts on my desktop it doesn't show these different kind of deleting screens. My username is only 4 letters long and the name of the file/shortcut is one char+dot+3 letter extension. So, it equals to 39 chars long path -> 43 chars long path+name of the file.

I guess pasting print screens is useless, since my WXP is in Finnish.. Here we go anyways.
Code:
This appears twice when trying to delete a shortcut on my desktop: http://xs110.xs.to/xs110/06480/desktop.jpg
This appears twice when trying to delete a shortcut in the root of the device: http://xs110.xs.to/xs110/06480/root.jpg
And this appears after both: http://xs110.xs.to/xs110/06480/real_del_screen.jpg
