I have 2 laptops at home, one running Linux and one running Windows. I want both to connect to my SMC2804WBRP-G router, but I am only able to get one client connected at the same time. If either of the computers are already connected to the wireless network, the other computer won't get on.
I can see in Linux that my laptop is associated with the access point, but I am not able to receive any packages. I do not get an IP address from the DHCP and it doesn't work if I set it to use static IP address either.
I have tried it both with WPA and no encryption / security but with the same result. Both laptops work perfectly when only one needs to be connected, but as soon as both needs to, only the first one is able to get a connection.
Aslo, both laptops have no problems connecting to other networks with multiple clients.
Can anyone help we with this problem?

I have the same router and over the years i have come to the conclusion that the wireless part of it pretty much sucks. I even had a SMC wireless PCMCIA wlan card wich was unable to connect to it. Many devices i tried had problems connecting. Anyways, i found no real solution, sometimes it helps to enable SSID broadcasts (wich isn't really advisable), and to try different speed settings except the mixed one and the long range mixed one (b+g). Also do turn of g nitro and try different channels. WEP is also not working with all devices.
SMC did offer firmware updates for this model, and there was also a V2 model released wich i have, but all in all the wlan part never worked that well. I'll make sure to never pick up a SMC router again in the future.
