Quote: | 1946 includes:
* The PE-2 campaign
* The Sturmoviks over Manchuria campaign
* The 1946 campaign (after one we name the product)
* A detailed 450 pages long Plane Guide (in UK only)
* Exclusive videos making of videos (in UK only)
* Exclusive glance at Storm of War™ Battle of Britain
And also
* Il-2 Forgotten Battles
* Ace Expansion Pack
* Pacific Fighters
* All the latest patches |
I can't wait to get my hands on this baby. I love this sim to death, I've spent way too much time and money on the Sturmovik series.

p.s..
If u cant get it to work
.go to start->run->regedit->hkey_local_machine->system->mounted_devices
3.find in here your daemon tools virtual drive(for me its \dosdevices\G: ) and rename it to
\dosdevices\G.h:
you can put any letter not only the "h"
4.run the game without any loader
5.have fun using old trick

Is it just me and my graphic whore ways, or do all these flight games look like ass? Correct me if I'm wrong or please aim me in another direction, I wanna fly a plane, a jet, a fukin spaceship and I want it to look all candy-ish but I don't want to farm an asteroid for three fucking days first.
/end rant

this IS a stand alone. to run the game you just have to use DaemonTool 4.08 and Y.A.S.U 1.03.

Il2 looks actually pretty nice in movement if you cranked all the options up

ay carramba! That video is really impressive. It shows you know what you're doing.
IMO The grfx are more then sufficient for this type of sim. It's true that the ground detail is low compared to the other modern games, but thats not what this is all about. I would be more than happy if Maddox concentrated on the airplane/cockpit detail and the overall realism, and forgot about pretty trees and ground textures altogether.

how often do you even go close enough to see the detail
it's more than enough as it is
if you want to preserve any level of realism, you'll be looking at the world from inside the cockpit anyway
i prefer they focus more on flight model and AI and other stuff that actually matter for the gameplay
as they have

That video is amazing
Whoever said this game isn't a good looker obviously has extremely high standards. The game has an overall feeling of consistency and quality so whilst it might not be the most technologically advanced anymore, it has an artistry about it which negates all that. It's a wonderful series of games.

This is by far, and without a question, the best WW2 combat sim available. If you missed the other titles from the series for some reason, don't skip this one, as it has all the previous ones within it. Just don't expect to jump in, and make yourself an ace on the first flight.

do you need a flight/joystick for this one or is it enjoyable with keyboard/mouse?

You can use a keyboard, but this is one of those games that requires a decent joystick and hours of practice to get anywhere.

Does the game include hands on tutorials for newbies like myself?
I bought a $100 Saitek X-52 for BF2/2142 and it has been sitting gathering dust since, (mouse and keyboard is both more precise and more practical for the above titles). Anyway, I tried lockon, but due to their shoddy handsoff tutorials I was never able to get to a competent level of manuverability/playability.
I'd like for this to give me a reason to dust off that $120 investment and actually put it to use, but I fear without some guided help I'll never reach any level of competence in those hardcore flightsims.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.
