|
 |
I've never been a part of the PS2 "scene" nor have I owned a PS2 in a long time.
Now that a new chip is out for the newer versions, and it's solderless, I might jump back into it and try out all the titles I've missed over the years... But I'm just curious to what point the PS2 "scene" is at.
Do you have to burn each release to play them? Can you stream over a harddrive or anything? Can you attach a harddrive to the PS2?
And what needs to be done when you have a chip installed? Just burn the game image and toss the game in and it runs? Or is there more to it?
Thanks for info!

You need a chip, then you can install a harddrive in it, you can buy adapters so you can use ordinary ide harddrives and it's possible to put them inside the case if you got the first edition ps2, with the slim version theres not enough room so you have to have an external hd, to my knowledge atleast.
Go for it you can transfer iso's to the harddrive and run them from there no prob, but wii is out soon so why get a ps2

Wait, afaik you DO NOT need a chip if you use a product like HDAdvance, USBeXtreme etc. to transfer games to a HDD and play them from there.

You don't need a chip to run games games from a hard drive. This trick can be use to play playstation 2 games only. It doesn't work with playstation 1 games nor with playstation 2 games that use 9 GB DVDs.
What you need is a memory card, a playstation 1 game, the modem adaptor, and a hard drive. I'll recommend to check this site:

I got everything that I needed from there. For me it has a lot of benefits reduce loading time, you don't have to worry about scratching the game discs. Personally I acquire the ps2 not long ago. I found it is well worth it especially with great library of games that the ps2 has.

when setting up my usbextreme on the ps2 i found that it would only recognise drives upto 40gb... this isnt a limitation of usbextreme but of the usb-ide adaptor supposedly but when using the same adaptor for pc use only i can get it working with drives upto 200gb (maybe more but havent tried). threfore i assume that the limitation is with usbextreme. be sure to follow the usbextreme instructions on formatting the drive as it was quite fussy at first but once working has been great for over a year with very high success rate. i've only had a handfull of games not work - God of War & Shadow of the Collosus & the eyetoy games - gow and soc were designed not to run on usb & the eyetoy games use usb themselves & although will run they dont then recognis the eyetoy....

Yes, it´s as easy as that, just use good discs like Verbatim and you will do fine.

Sorry to revive this thread...
So I now have a slim PS2 with the ethernet port in it, does that get me anywhere? Via the ethernet port or some kind of HDD setup?
EDIT: Also.. with USBEXTREME... how does the PSTwo boot the usbextreme dvd if the PSTwo hasn't been modified in any way?

Well that's easy - you must buy the original. But I've read HD Advance is much better than USBExtreme. USBExtreme is supposed to be very unreliable. But I think you can't use HD Advance with a PS Two because you can't connect a normal HDD to a PS Two, right? Well I guess I shouldn't write more about this since I never used one of those things myself.

I used to have HDA. Quite honestly I thought it was crap.
I'd rather have a chip any day of the week.
