Wow, what an awesome game. Most addictive game I have ever played.
I cant believe that I waited this long to get a guitar. It was quite expensive but it was totally worth it. Anyone else totally in love with this game? (dumb question huh?). Smile
I'm currently on medium and starting to get the hang of things. Some songs are fricking hard even on medium, so I have the biggest respect for those that can beat the later songs on hard/expert with a good %. I guess I will be able to do it some day too though, but that day seem very far away. Laughing

Guitar Hero 2 is soon out too (11/1/06) and I cant fricking wait! Smile

Im surprised its taken you this long to latch onto this one pallebrun, but yes im completely addicted to it too there was period there where near enough every post I made on boards either referenced Guitar Hero or I ended up taking it into off topic by discussing Guitar Hero it actually became quite embarrassing to me.Embarassed

Also as I said recently Guitar Hero 2 is perhaps my most eagerly anticpated title.

I've obviously had a headstart on you but completed the game in easy, medium, hard and expert, the learning curve is just perfect and its so rewarding when you do finally complete the game in full on all modes - great unlocks too. Smile

Yeah right. This is actually fun while paying a real guitar isn't (unless your a fricking pro), and it does not take many many years to master. So I think I prefear this over any real guitar. Smile

You any good pancake? Some of the videos I have seen on the net are insane.

Starshine: I though it was just another basic and boring (in my opinion) music game. But man was I wrong. Smile
You must be quite skilled if you have completed it on even expert StarShine!
I find those quick notes the hardest. I have to learn those "pull-offs?" to make things easier I guess.

I'd say im reasonably skilled, play guitar as well so naturally have nimble fingers but playing the game is a completely difference experience to playing a real guitar as you already pointed out.

The learning curve is what will guide you upto and through the later levels its just balanced perfectly to reward those that put in the practice, you do have to push yourself though and not get happy sitting on the medium level which obviously only uses 4 frets has the very slow note counter display and also reduced notes/chords/use of hammer ons/pull offs.

Enjoy though and buy the bonus tracks as soon as you get the dough in game, there every bit as much fun as the licensed tracks. Wink

It's starting to get REALLY tough now on medium. I'm at the "fret heavy" tunes (aces of spades and the likes) and I just cant beat crossroads and the third from the top (cant remember the name) and I need 1 more to go forward, grrr. Crying or Very sad
By the way, I tried expert just for fun and good god, it was insanely fast!! I killed the song (a quite easy song on medium) after like 5 seconds. Laughing

Yeah, if its any incentive for you to persevere your experiences were no different from mine. Crossroads, No One knows and Cowboys from Hell (from Face Melters), Bark at the Moon (from Face Melters) were all tracks that at one point gave me difficulty on normal - as I said though practice is what gets you through, you don't need to memorize the notes or any of that stuff eventually your reactions will get so fast that playing those tracks on that skill level won't be challenging at all. Smile

I'm already getting faster. Hard/Expert is still miles away though. Laughing
It's such a rush when you nail those solos. I seriously get goose flesh. Smile
My favourite songs are among the earlier ones. Many of the later songs are abit too hard for my taste, they are still nice though but I prefear the "softer" ones. Smile

My favourites are these:
Smoke on the Water
More Than a Feeling
Thunder Kiss '65
Sharp Dressed Man
You've Got Another Thing Coming
Take it Off
Crossroads (even though it's fricking hard)

I've played this off and on, and I'm finally up to the last for songs on Expert. My roster of expert doesn't have a single 4 star song Sad I sux.

But yah, this is pretty much the only ps2 game I play these days. The song list is phenominal, and I just can't wait 3 more months for GH2 Sad Sad

Fuck, Frankenstein is hellah awesome. Why have I never heard this song till now?????

I'm now on hard and the "fret burners" songs. I've done the first 2 and ace of spades but the last 2 are damn hard. I especially hate the crossroads solo. I can do 80% on crossroads at best, thanks to star power. :/
My main problem is that I cant keep track on where the notes are under my fingers WHEN i slide my hand back and forth to reach the green and the orange. It gets pretty mixed up. Very Happy

Not a single 4star on expert you say? Bah, I barely have a 4star on hard. Razz

heh it's really funny, after reading this thread I figured I'd go play some more. After many retries, I finally 3 starred Texas Flood on expert Very Happy That leaves Frankenstein, CFH, and BatM. I can only get 5% into Bark at the Moon though...I don't think I'll ever beat it.

Crossroads....fuck. I love playing that song, but oh god is it hard. The solo's obliterate me. You REALLY need to master the HO's and PO's. Trust me, once you beat it on hard, it'll be a glorious day, only to get completey utter OWNED trying to beat it on expert :/ Cochise is another one, though not nearly as fun.

I did it! I finally beat crossroads! Not by much though. I was basicly down on red but I somehow managed to survive the brutal last solo! Very Happy
The last song I have left on "fret burners" are No one knows and I actually find this one harder than crossroads. But if I was able to complete crossroads then I will not give up untill No one knows is beaten too. Smile

EDIT: w000t!!!!! I beat No one knows now too on my second try!! I must change my view on the songs, crossroads are actually harder than No one knows.
It's amazing what a whole day off from the game can do. Smile

Now I "only" have the last 5 songs left. I will need some serious training before I will be able to beat cowboys from hell and bark at the moon. The other 3 are easier from what I have seen when playing quick play.

I don't know whether you had been following Guitar Hero 2 still Pallebrun (or anyone for that matter) but the all but final track list seems to be as follows:-

# . Opening Licks

* Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
* Danzig - Mother
* Cheap Trick - Surrender
* Wolfmother - Woman
* Spinal Tap - Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight

# 2. Amp-Warmers

* Kiss - Strutter
* Nirvana - Heart-Shaped Box
* Police - Message in a Bottle
* Van Halen - You Really Got Me
* Kansas - Carry on Wayward Son

# 3. String-Snappers

* Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench
* Alice in Chains - Them Bones
* Iggy Pop and the Stooges - Search and Destroy
* Pretenders - Tattooed Love Boys
* Black Sabbath - War Pigs

# 4. Thrash and Burn

* Warrant - Cherry Pie
* Butthole Surfers - Who Was in My Room Last Night
* Mathew Sweet - Girlfriend
* Rolling Stones - Can't You Hear Me Knockin'
* Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine

# 5. Return of the Shred

* Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name Of
* Primus - John the Fisherman
* Sword - Freya
* Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation
* Aerosmith - Last Child

# 6. Relentless Riffs

* Heart - Crazy on You
* Stone Temple Pilots - Tripping on a Hole in a Paper Heart
* Stray Cats - Rock This Town
* Allman Brothers - Jessica
* Jane's Addiction - Stop

# 7. Furious Fretwork

* Anthrax - Madhouse
* Living End - Carry Me Home
* Lamb of God - Laid to Rest
* Reverend Horton Heat - Psychobilly Freakout
* Rush - YYZ

# 8. Face-Melters

* Avenged Sevenfold - Beast and the Harlot
* Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized
* Dick Dale - Misirlou
* Megadeth - Hangar 18
* Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird

Pretty damn sweet in my opinion, theres also talk of them shipping the game with either a cherry red Gibson SG or a Flying V model guitar controller, its a definete preorder title for me and I'll get a pack with a controller rather than the solus for multi obviously. Just waiting for final confirmation of the packs that are going to be available on release day. Very Happy

couple of weeks ago I stepped into my local game emporium and they had it on display on a shelf, It looked great, so I bought it.

......I then had to buy a ps2, I do things a bit backward.

I love the game, and while I wouldnt say Im a pro (real) guitar player Im pretty damn good but this game is still just as fucking entertaining. I absolutely love the game, then my m8 brought his guitar round and we played MP, even better! Seriously at a party after a few beers this games just takes over its such a good laugh.

Yeah, you and me both - Theres been no game that I've played this year as much as Guitar Hero. Personally im suprised that they stuck to the November release date so the small wait doesn't bother me that much, I thought the US would have had the game way in advance like it was with the first game?

In case you didn't see it there was a news snippet on IGN I believe the other day that said MTV are going to be purchasing Harmonics, I think that bodes well for the series and if it ever hits Live or the PS3's online service I'd expect a huge amount of downloadable tracks/content rather than having to wait for a year or so for new tracks (at least thats what I hope they have in mind Razz ).

Oh yeah I see 360 owners are getting this game too at the start of next year with a specially designed Gibson "X-Plorer" controller.

2nd ones out now - the idea of the game is great.. its just a shame the music is so crap and awful.. The kind of stuff only dense American teens could appreciate.

Do people actually listen to this horrible stuff? I could play better music on a frying pan with elastic bands strung on it Laughing

A Reggae or Soul vers would be fantastic Laughing

Seems there is two versions up. A stright copy of the dvd at well over 4 gig and the smaller Eminent version.

Anyway I got the bigger one last night and just tried it.

Works like a charm. Has widescreen and prog scan this time too. ROCK !!!

Oh and Reg67 they are bringing out a Reggae version. Its called Steel drum hero. Pre-order it NOW.

As far as I know you dont "need" a guitar (maybe it changed for part 2 though?). Part 1 worked with a normal ps2 gamepad, but why would you want to play this game with a gamepad?

It's awesome btw. I have played down to the 4'th section and it has been a blast. GOTY for sure.
The section before section 4 though was quite bad, shitty songs. I started on hard right away and I haven't had much trouble. But that's obviously because I played GH1 like a maniac. Smile Been 5staring a few songs and the rest are 4stars basicly. There are more songs this time with solos and that OWNS! Smile
Haven't tried the new training mode yet. Will do that when I get problems later in the game. But I think it will help alot on those hard and fast solos.

GH2 rocks in every possible way. I've just been playing it for hours, damn... I LOVE it. Practise mode was sorely needed for those damn solos on expert mode...or just about anything on expert, lol.
