I am not sure about this,but I guess the speed is not comparable with dvds, like it isn't between cds and dvds

yeah i hate overpriced laptops too

Yeah you can build a computer for less, but it's still going to cost you a lot of money and it's a lump sum. Most people (poor people anyway, people I know) buy these things on higher purchase. You can't do that with individual components for example.
