It's not really a remake. It's adaption of the same 1968 novel which inspired the John Wayne film of the same title.

PG-13 is appropriate for this film.

I'd rather have a well made film than a shit film with tits and gore.

rofl R-rating = tits and gore?

If you say ONE fuck that is related to sex it gets an R-rating. And if you say more than one fuck in a movie without relating it to sex it gets an R-rating.

Boy's don't cry = R-rating. Hillary Swank gets assraped, shot in the face but they had to cut out a scene of a girls face getting an orgasm or they'd have slapped it with an NC-17. Not because of the orgasm but it was induced by another woman(you don't see anything except the face) and that was the problem.

There is absolutely no consistency in the ratings issued by the MPAA and further more they are completely biased towards studio movies as opposed to independent movies. Up untill 2007 you couldn't even compare your film to another in your appeal for a lower rating!

A movie such as Clerks went through hell to get an R-rating and you see fuck all they just swear a lot but Saving Private Ryan was R-rating no probs. Everything that isn't middleclass middleamerica white suburban christian appropriate is biased against.

problem, ratings board?

Calm the [censored] down. Inception was one of the best movies I saw all year and it was PG-13.

Nolan is a master of not getting an R-rating(look at the dark knight) but hey I don't necessarily mind but a hardcore western thats pg-13? It has obvious limitations to dialogue etc.

I have never seen the original but I will watch this remake, Jeff Bridges is always awesome.
I'll check out the original after watching the remake, I don't want to go in to the theater comparing movies.

The film has been rated 15 by the BBFC for "scenes of strong violence".

True Grit 7/10

enjoyed it more than i thought i would.. plenty of great laughs, and further cements just how fucking great an actor jeff bridges is- he MADE the film, he really did. the girl was ok... she didnt annoy me like most kids do in movies, she was actually pretty decent and never grated on my nerves, and maaaattt ddaaaamon was good as well.

only complaints was that it felt short for some reason, and i didnt really like it how everything was resolved in one scene... just seemed a bit uneven to me... and the ending i wasnt very fond of, either - like you had this really triumphant and powerful sequence, then followed by a slow bit of drama where nothing happens, then a massive downer which somehow managed to lack the emotional punch that it should have... nope, not a fan of the ending was handled.

also... bear-man. what the fuck, right?

What is going on here!!

Now I love the Coens. Watched the original "True Grit" some years back, so was excited to see this remake in the hands of the Coens.
But how a 90% copy of an old flick can get some many oscar nominations is shocking!! Half the movie is shot scene for scene!!! As is the dialog...No one needs to see a movie remade in this fashion (well if they saw the original that is) - they did nothing to make it their own :/

There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.
