Basically ive been checking out some forums and it seems like ati has some new setting up its sleve that has only just appeared in the 6.12beta drivers... I havent tried it yet but i will when the 6.12's come out , it seems to fill things like tree's in and grass making things look graphically fuller. Plus frame rates go up by 15-20+!

Its called EATM you also need to use Alphasharpenmode which is another cool setting you need to use , otherwise you get some kind of graphical dots not sure if thats because its beta still.

I'll let you decide

Check the tree

Scroll down on how to get it to work with drivers 6.12 beta+
im also not sure if its only for the new ati cards like the x1800xt e.t.c

Not sure if this is the right section as its related to pc games + ati , better gfx and higher frame rates are good right? Razz

yeah right ... just set the grass to low or high in the game setup and you get the same result ...
smells fake from a mile

It isnt fake even ray adams was talking about it himself Rolling Eyes

If the EATM setting is enabled, it works with multi-sampling. The more samples of multi-sampling when the EATM setting is enabled the more quality.

The idea, I believe, behind the thinking of the EATM feature is to allow the end-user to enjoy alpha quality with more performance.

well, i m not sure what it is really doing, but one thing is for sure. It renders differently from what the game should look like. Looking at the trees in Serious Sam i d say i even like the default rendering better.
If they can up the fps and render the scene as it was supposed to render i ll be happy for ati. Else it feels wrong for a gfx-card to decide how a scene should look based on fps-optimizations imho...

I agree with Lutzifer.

BTW filling in "transparent" objects to gain fps is lame.

But it is just an option users have,so it's alright.

Ok....I'm still really new to ATI, so how exactly do I try this out? I use the Omega drivers with ATT (v940) what do I need to do to "upgrade" to the beta drivers? Uninstall everything ati, use driver cleaner, install the beta drivers then install the new ATT? Any other ATI users using this and have problems? Was it worth the hassle?

i can has computar?!

They don't look like trees anymore, they look like some green blob. Now that's really something to go for Rolling Eyes

EDIT : On second sight, It actually looks good. Cool

It's funny to note that until AnimalMother spoke his mind about it every single poster in the thread hated it, but then when someone didn't jump on the bandwagon they changed their minds and cheered for it instead...

I do agree that it looks good, but changing your mind just because someone thinks different and is apparently cooler than you, makes you a tool.

Besides, those people who posted after me hadn't already made a post of their opinion on the subject, so it's not as if they changed their minds about it.

*edit* I'm a flaming souchebag and answered my own questions.
BTW, the in game effect CANNOT be captured adequately in screenshots. Seeing these leaves in motion with EATM off and with it on is like switching from night and day.

Ok so here's what EATM does for me:

OFF

ON

Nice change Very Happy

from those screenies it looks like those leafs are smoother Very Happy

does anyone know if there is a min requirement of graphics card for this new option? I have an old/crappy ATI card so the new feature might be redundant with it...

Isn't Transparency Antialiasing (TSAA) the nVidia equivalent? I've seen the same smoother leafs with TSAA in Oblivion, and it is indeed nicer.

The new EATM mode looks like it's taking multi-samples like nVidia's TrMS.

Yeah but the performance improvements are the real focus in this update. Besides, A-A is just speculating that it's the same as Nvidia's transparency anti-aliasing.
