Just read this:
http://forum.mininova.org/lofiversion/index.php?t234985293.html
Crying or Very sad
aXXo, many of you will know, is probably the most popular non-scene release groups who are well known for their high quality, reliable and compact DVD Rips on the BitTorrent network.
As of recently, they have suspended their releases on the grounds that the website axxotorrents.com was indexing only axxo torrents without consent from the group. aXXo simply weren't happy about their name being misrepresented by morons like this Evil or Very Mad , fair enough in my view.
I don't think DiAMOND would be too happy if somebody bought diamond.com and chucked torrents and what not on there.
What I appreciated about aXXo was that they provided 7 or 800MB rips of movies and seldom two disc bandwidth wasters.. I cant say I'm too happy about waiting for a 1.4GB scene rip to download that I'll watch once and delete. Sure, all time classic and cult movies deserve special treatment, but what with Hollywood spitting out so much shit at the moment I don't see the point in downloading an extra disc just for ac3 audio and a tiny, often unnoticable amount of higher quality.
What shocks me more often that not is why CAM releases are often 1.4GB+ in size.
CAMs are by nature pixelated, blurry and low resolution. A video bitrate higher than 700kb/s on a CAM is serious codec overkill and unnecessary, hell, I doubt image compression artifacts wouldn't even be noticeable at 500kbit/s if the correct codec settings and encoding resolution are chosen.

R.I.P. aXXo.

Lol, aXXo... Is there a real need for them? They were releasing 700MB rips of 2.5hrs movies... Is there a need for this still? HD rips are around the corner lurking....

i would download from newsgroups if i could, but unfortunately im already paying enuff for an unlimited 10mbit line (£33 which is about 60US dollars a month)without paying extra for a secure usenext / giganews account.
when i get a letter (which I doubt, private trackers a lot more secure) I'll make the change.

yeah never really liked axxo... to be honest, what is REALLY needed is more groups that do crisp 2cd ac3 releases of all movies, regardless of scene rules. but a 700mb 1cd group is pretty pointless. im not going to say good riddiance... loss of any group that does have SOME skill as axxo does, is a pity. however, i wont lose any sleep over this.

[naively] ELIZ, they split them so you could burn them on 700MB cds. Now you know[/naively]
Laughing

I always meged my AVIs as well, but burned the split ones (at the time I didn't have dvdr). Now I can't even stand the quality of those dvdrips. I mean, 640x272?? Pfft... Minimum a DVDR. But lately I'm being spoiled by the HD wonders. I'm downloading now 1080p of MI3. That quality is just mind bogling.

Neither do I... But I still love the quality. 1080p is indeed too much, but MI3 is worth it. For everything else, 720p is quite enough.

yeah... pity the movie sucked ass though, lol.

and i think some of the comments about xvid 640x272 being lame are a bit off... i know that you probably dont think there are actually people out there who DONT live in america and ARENT rich, but its true... there are people like this in other places (we call them countries)

not all of us have lightning fast connections or unlimited high speed internet... as far as im concerned, dvd is always preferable, but xvid rips are really the best i can do, and they suit me just fine for now... they havent outlived their usefullness yet... besides... 4 or 5 movies on one dvd beats just one, when the quality isnt THAT much worse....

but arent we digressing a little TOO much from the original topic?

now that i re-read it... this bit kinda ticks me off:
As of recently, they have suspended their releases on the grounds that the website axxotorrents.com was indexing only axxo torrents without consent from the group

what a WHINY BUNCH OF LITTLE FUCKING BITCHES! oh boo hoo their indexing our shit without our permission... yeah go home and cry you little idiots... like you got consent from the studios for pirating their shit, and now you turn around and cry foul play?... wow what a bunch of turds... they are acting like such little children... i change my original statement.. good riddance to these kiddies.... dont need that kind of attitude if they want to play this game.

I disagree Axxo rips were usually a good way to watch films to see if they were good enough to rip.

And not everybody has money to burn like a lot of Immature arrogant twats on this forum.

How is that a good thing? P2P shouldn't have access to anything from the scene. If they didn't there wouldn't be many busts.

Scene releases should not be spread on p2p network simply because of the major security risks involved. Simple as that.

well who cares about the security risks... if your into all this piracy crap and you get caught, then tough shit... you make that choice... if you dont want to get busted, then move ur ass out of the way and let the others waiting in line have a go. theres plenty waiting.

Of course the groups are aware of the security risks, especially with the busts in the past.. but that doesn't mean they should walk up to the cops and pull down their pants, now does it? How stupid can you get? Security measures is important. I rest my case, p2p is an unecessary risk.

my point is, if its a risk they are unwilling to take, then they shouldnt do what they do, simple as that. that doesnt mean i like p2p, i think its trash. but what do groups want? for their criminal activities to be low risk? if they cant handle the potential risk of people sharing stuff over p2p, then they shouldnt be doing this. im getting sick of people and groups complaining. they arent special, and they arent doing us some great favour in releasing films, and that we owe them big time..., most groups do it purely for their own goals. there are PLENTY of groups willing to fill the ranks when someone gets too cocky and caught... piracy these days is all about getting noticed, about getting rep. no wonder there are so many busts.

People spreading shit on p2p is not the issue. Groups spreading their shit directly to p2p networks is.
