Well this years (2006) funniest warning label has been chosen:
"A warning label on a washing machine at a laundromat that warns, “Do not put any person in this washer” "

http://www.mlaw.org/wwl/

The worst thing though is when those damn labels come over here aswell, almost fun buying american made things Laughing

And a nice quote about the american freedom:
"This annual contest, and the new book, Remove Child Before Folding, give us a chance to tell the inside story of how our nation’s legal system has become so erratic that these types of labels are necessary” said Dorigo Jones.

gotta love usa. I still loved this one comedian ragging on the warning label for cigarettes. It doesnt take common sense to know that cigs. are bad for your health, it's like putting a wanring label on a hammer and saying its going to hurt if your smash your face with it.

disagree about the warning labels on cigarettes Wink the entire range of health complications from smoking may be unknown to some, plus, it's good to have a reminder.

Exactly. Expecially for kids who grow up around smokers. They get to see the picture of the rotten gums, the lung picture.

there is a large amount of research showing the effectiveness of these ads as well, so they are hardly 'useless'

Oh yeah cigarettes sucks.
They really work on it here. 2 Years ago they showed us in school, lounges of a pig that was a "passive smoker" and in comparison, lounges of a pig that was perfectly healthy and they even pumped it in air Razz.
The passive smoking pig lounges looked like utter shit with black weird thingys on them and even some holes, and the healthy pig lounges just looked so much better.

Smoking sucks.

yeah X_Dror I saw something similar, except it was human lungs preserved in a museum (Body Worlds)

they had a healthy person's lungs beside a smoker's, and the smokers was all black and stuff... then there was a lung of a miner, that lung looked like it was coated with ore.. O.o

Body Worlds was pretty good, you saw a lot of stuff you would never see/imagine in real life

they had a horizontally sliced body of a obese person, it clearly showed the fat on each slice... It made me reduce my fast food intake ever since lol...

Ever hear about the old lady who put her cat in the microwave oven to dry it. And she got millions from the manufacturer because it said nowhere that it was dangerous Very Happy
Also one guy sued McDonalds because he burned himself on a cup of coffee and there was no warning label on the cup. Very Happy
Don't know if these stories are true, but it wouldn't surprise me Wink

Dunno for this specific case but I can tell you that there were true stories like that in France, with kids who microwaved their dog. ^^

Manufacturers use these "ridiculous" labels to help prevent future lawsuits. It costs how much for a sticker with some writing on it? That way when the occasional idiot uses a product in a bizarre manner, the manufacturer can end the lawsuit nearly before it begins. The fact that European courts often limit damages to ridiculously low amounts doesn't make that system any better.

We don't sue somebody for every stupid action we take in europe. Some actions are self inflicted rather than the result of the product we've used. Like the label "don't use this lawnmover on your hedge"..I mean, you honestly need to write that on a label for somebody to know not to do it? Just plain stupid. And when that woman (or man) got burned on the coffee at MacDonalds in US and got millions of dollars..I mean, C'MON!!!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Do you not think the USA has become overly litigious? You're a conservative, don't you think there should be more personal responsibility?

edit: I found an article that argues that all these lawsuits are more myth than reality... and it is perpetuated in order to instate lawsuit restriction legislation, thus shutting out big compensation for legitimate cases ....

Do you know that the (79 year old) woman tried to settle with McDonalds for just the cost of her medical expenses, and they rejected it?

Though there was a warning on the coffee cup, the jury decided that the warning was neither large enough nor sufficient.

ffs. how stupid can you be, hot = burn. The jury must been retards on coke. Whats enough? A monkey sitting next to you screamin "THE COFFE IS HOT!!!! DON'T SPILL ANY ON YOU!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND??"
Quote:

She placed the coffee cup between her knees and pulled the far side of the lid toward her to remove it. In the process, she spilled the entire cup of coffee on her lap.

Her own fucking fault, but good for her that she got "some" cash. Her grandchildren will be happy when she dies in a few years/months/days. Ye the coffe was maybe to hot, but why the fuck do she need millions to fix her old wrinkly skin anyways. Get pretty to all the guys wanting to date her? ye ye.

It is pretty damn fucked up to be able to sue someone over hot coffee. What these people are sueing over is their over damn stupidity. It should not be allowed.

She sat soaked in the shit for 90 seconds? How dumb can you get. First instant reaction is to pull off those damn clothes and find some cold water if possible.

lol .. you guys are jerks making fun of an old lady like that. She was old and probably quite immobile (no wonder she didn't jump right up and change instantly like superman), and also spent 8 days in the hospital + 2 yrs treatment.

It's an unfortunate event, hardly worth making fun of someone for. She obviously didn't have the insurance to cover the expenses. I don't really think they are at fault, but fuck, maybe Mickie Dees should have just paid the poor woman's medical expenses instead of taking their chances with a 'talented' lawyer who made a case.

btw, she ended up with 600K, not millions Wink

..and since when did you become mr fucking sensitive? It's her own fucking fault thats she got it on her, it wasn't a McDonalds employee who ran up and squirted that shit on her . It was SHE who spillt that on her. Ok, the coffe was "too hot", but $589.000 for something she caused herself is just not right. Oh, and sorry. It was 600k "not" millions. My bad. Like it matters, still alot of money for something like that.
