I don't usually sign petitions; however this one is important! Wink

Quote:
The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.

The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid

£86 in one month.

On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a NIP with your monthly bill.

If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website. Yes this is a Government e-petition site ( to stop you queueing in Downing Street)

Please pass this on to anyone who owns a car/motorcycle. It affects them.

Here in Illinois we have IPass. It costs next to nothing and charges you on the tollways. Using the IPass instead of coins saves you money though. It isn't supposed to be for tracking your car but that isn't to say they can't/aren't.

But there really shouldn't be any tolls. They said they were going to be temporary until the bill was paid off... That was back in the 70s. Twenty some odd years later there are still tolls.

That's as every bit worse than the poll tax.

Plus you're being tracked.

I think that happens everywhere. They introduce taxes that are suppose to pay off the roads and bridges and continue to charge after they are paid off. Our government did that with the Kokahalla hwy (sp?)

Count yourselves lucky! atm i cannot afford to buy a car so have to rely on public transport.. this costs 3-4 times the amount running a car does (i know ive done both) whatever dickhead politician said public transport was cheap - obviously never had to use it..

This brings up another topic - if public transport was clean and resonably priced - would you use it instead of your cars? - applies to U.K people.. cos i expect in the rest of Europe public transport is cheap?

Nah I think he means he would be on the bus for around five mins and that's what it would cost him. Here in the UK you pay for how many busstops you go through.

Well public transport is expensive now. It has been since the first gulf war. When the oil and diesel prices started going up the fares went up too. After the prices came down again the fares stayed the same. It costs me and I live about a mile and a half from the city centre about £1.70 to travel one way.

Not that I use public transport very often. Only when I go out with a lot of friends and we can't get more than one taxi or when I go to the town on a Saturday afternoon and theres virtually no chance of finding a parking space.

Failed my driving test twice, so at least I can say I don't drive because of the money, instead of being a crap bastard.

Well the travel passes here are probably cheaper too. I can travel on the Metro, bus and ferry for about £42. But I don't use public transport that much for it to be worthwhile.

I only use public transportation when I go to the city. We park at Midway Airport and take the L for $2 with free transfers. It's much cheaper than paying for parking in the city and much less of a hassle.
