Don't bother with the TDA release of NG 9!

In his haste to deliver the goods the 'supplemental' folder he supplied in the CD image makes the CD unbootable. Not a good thing when your hard drives fail and you need to boot from the CD Wink

Wait for a clean version. He knows about the problem and presumably will provide the 'supplemental' folder seperately.

The 'new' bootable version of Ghost 9 is indeed bootable Very Happy

EXCEPT... I get an error message whenever I select any of the options Mad Something about the application not starting and I should reinstall the product. Nothing to reinstall in this case.

As far as making the original image bootable I don't think it's that easy. THis is not a DOS bootable CD. It's Norton's own.

Actually it's windows preinstallation environment, so you make it bootable just like a normal xp cd for example, lots of site have info on how-to. Very easy.

It still doesn't work, though. Error messages when you try any of the options in the recovery consol. Nothing works when you boot from the cd.....

Symantec is not stupid, they added some protection to make things harder for pirated copies of their app! Rolling Eyes

They work as standalone on my personalized WinPE disk, so something is wrong with the paths int the.xml files, can't figure out just what, yet.
Anyway, it's a bad release imoa. Sad

I made it bootable by using boot.bif made in UltraISO from Norton Ghost 2003 and then added it to Norton Ghost 9.0 and I get this when booting up:

1. Continue without loading any drivers
2. Load USB 1.1 drivers
3. Load USB 2.0 drivers
4. Load Load Firewire drivers
5. Load ZIP/JAZ drivers

I choosed #1 and ended up here: A:\>

then I have no idea what to type ?

I bet the problem is related to Symantec's protection scheme for their products.

I realize that I should not look a 'gift horse in the mouth' when it comes to free software but do the guys who provide them even bother to test out what they make??? Is that asking to much? It seems the prime concern is that they are the first ones to make their 'package' available.

Got the fix for the TDA release.

It works great!!!!! CD is bootable and everything works!!! I used the first release not the one that says it is bootable. It might work with that one too, I don't know.

I only tried the standalone stuff. I will install it under XP later today and test it out.

Here's the instrustions from the fix for thoise who are interested:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.Extract fix.exe to C:\ [will be c:\fix]

2. Extract the TDA-SNG9.bin file to a folder called C:\NORTONGHOST9.00
There will be error messages at the end of extraction, just say no to all.

3. After extraction delete the folder
C:\NORTONGHOST9.00\I386\WINSXS

4. Run Intergrate.cmd

5: When done burn at 4X - 8X

Problem with TDA release is that there are file names in the WINSXS folder that were longer than 64 characters. The extra characters were truncated when they made their ISO. This adds the correct characters to those files.

SYMANTEC.NORTON.GHOST.V9.0.REPACK-TDA

Repack Notes:

Our original release was poorly imaged and as a result bootstrap
was missing. We apologize for this and here is the real thing,
finally.
We take advantage of this nfo to remind our friends from echos
that iso scene isnt only about buying an app at K-Mart when u go
out for groceries with your mom and then use other people
tools/cracks to make it work. Next time u steal other people's
work try at least to hide it, since the format of serials
(no dashes) u provided obviously was generated by SSG's keygen.
Stick to unprotected releases next time ;p
We also wonder how echos imaged (built?) their release, but we
can smell sweat from here for sure. Our release have genuine file
dates and a legit cuesheet as bonus. Enjoy Smile
