Hello!

I'm finally going to be buying a new computer, and I'm wondering will my current PSU be able to handle it. I have Levicom VP 500B, 500Watt powersupply, 34amps on 12v rail.

I'll be getting:
Core 2 Duo E6600
MB Gigabyte 965GM-S2
2x 1GB SuperTalent, CL4 RAM
and ofc GF 8800GTX Smile

I have no money left now, so will my psu handle it, or rather, will it be able to keep my comp running at full power? Although I appreciate all opinions, I'd rather hear it from someone owning a similar system...

Thank you!

I would go for more juice. Have a similar system but I am running a 800W PSU.
That card alone requires at LEAST! 450W
"Requirements
Minimum of a 450 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 28 Amp Amps.)"

I looked at some tests and found a wattage calculator, it doesn't seem it uses my more than my current system (processor actually uses less, and my current 6800 uses just 20wats less than 8800). Found some posts on other forums, and people say the same, 400W is almost enough it seems, as stated by the Inquirer(I know, not a very reliable source), the power on highly overclocked system never went over 430Watt.

In any case, question answered, thanks!

I dunno about you guys but I think the requirements provided by ATi and Nvidia are high up there to make sure nobody is conservative and blames the card for something going wrong.

My friends Dell had a 300Watt PSU that had a single 17A 12v rail and I completely discouraged him in buying a 7900GT for that Dell but what do you know it works flawlessly. Just for fun I threw my 1900XT which ATi *Recommends* a PSU with 30A on the 12v and again that puny 300W PSU ran the card flawlessly. And I've come across a ton of underpowered powersupplys running these cards fine, as long as its a good quality not some sun bright shit you find in a case at a garage sale.

Im not saying skimp on a powersupply but don't blow a fortune on a nuclear powerplant when in most cases its not necessary. Some people spend $170 on powersupplies to run a Single HDD, Burner and a 7600GT with no intentions of buying a monster card in the future.

Check that out, it will send you in the right direction.
