Official web page: LINK
Publisher: Mindscape
Developer: Eversim
Genre: Grand Scale Strategy/Political Sim
Release date: April 2007
Story/Description:
Quote:

Economic and geopolitical simulation game for PC.

SUMMARY :

G.P.S. is an extremely elaborate and realistic simulation of the functioning of the planet. All of the countries of the world are represented with their own variables and manners of functioning. The player is head of a country's government (president, king, prime minister, etc.) and can act in all domains: economic, social, military, foreign and domestic politics, environment, cultural, etc. Two game modes are offered to the player:

- 'Free mode' : the player's objective is to remain in power as long as possible and to further his influence throughout the world.

- 'Scenario mode' : several scenarios and missions with different difficulty levels and with specific objectives are proposed to the player. The game can be played in « solo » mode against the computer or in multiplayer mode (up to 16 players).

Additionnally, a version running in massively multiplayer mode with persistent universe will be available.

SCENARIOS :

30 original scenarios and missions ranging from global environment stability, energy shortages, the spreading of new diseases, terrorist threats, economic wars, military invasions, nuclear catastrophe, etc..

INTERFACE :

Inspired by information TV programs with multiple windows, on-screen video inserts, scrolling ticker tapes, ID cards for countries and personalities, etc.

All items are in 3D, notably the world map with topography, cities, regions, borders, territorial waters, etc. The world map can be displayed as flat or in globe form, full-screen or zoomed to a high level of detail. There are many display modes, based on theme or strategic and economic alliances.

PLAYER ACTIONS :

The player has a number of actions at his disposal, depending on how each country operates.

The player's first task is to form a government by choosing ministers from among the country's personalities.

All actions are distributed among twelve "super ministries" that perform all government services. In addition to specific decisions (for example changing tax rates, pushing the retirement age back, privatizing a state-owned company, firing a minister, etc.), the player can also negotiate with labour syndicates, sign business or military contracts with partner countries, participate in decision-making at international organizations, deliberate over a great number of laws that are proposed (such as creating a new tax, drawing up an employment plan, prohibiting political parties, making public transportation free for all, granting suffrage to immigrants, regulating police custody, etc.). From his private desk, the player can also consult the daily paper, update his planner, use his laptop, or telephone to make direct contact with a high-ranking government official or leader of another country.

A player's political decisions could take him on the path to becoming anything from a dictator to an environmentalist.

WARGAME :

Military operations are performed directly on the map. The strategies of the countries run by the computer are also influenced by the personality of their leader. The Secret Service are indispensable for learning about enemy forces and for leading special operations (overturning a regime, assassinations, sabotage, spreading rumours, etc).

GAME ENGINE :
To calculate the developments of the planet's values, economic equations and statistical diagrams are used. The engine is linked to sizeable databases grouping 229 countries (all of the countries recognized by the UN, plus Puerto Rico, Taiwan, and Palestine). For each of them, over 400 statistical indicators are updated in different domains: Economy (GDP, growth, per capita income, inflation, unemployment, etc.), geography, demographics, energy, commerce in over 60 different sectors of activity, monetary data, budget, fiscal data, politics, diplomacy, military, quality of life, education, culture, religion, etc.

Initial data are gathered from international organizations, budgetary ministries, and statistical institutes in the different nations. Statistics are gathered for over 8000 cities and for over 1200 administrative regions. More than 1000 nuclear and other energy units, more than 1000 military bases situated throughout the world, more than 100 historic and cultural sites.

Countries have an average of about two hundred personalities, each with individual variables - such as character, competence, ambition, political ideology, etc. - which influence their decisions. A More than 6000 fuzzy logic rules AI base is running consequences of any events or action in the world simulation. The player can change the names and photos of the personalities as desired (or even give them his own name). Likewise, logos and names of political parties can be customized.

Multiplayer: YES 1-16
Screens: Click

So far info on the game is only avaliable in French since it will be released in French first. But i mailed them and they said an English release will come out in April.

i hope this isn't as half-assed as superpower2 was (which in the end was only fun for the nuclear war part)
a proper modern global strategy game with PROPER diplomacy would be very welcome

Well from what i've been able to understand from the scarce information avaliable, the diplomacy will be very detailed and complex. I seem to remember reading on the official blog that you'll even be able to pull a Dubya in front of the U.N. security council and present either false or factual evidence in order to scare them into allowing you to attack a country.

Yeah, and you'll also be able to use your intelligence service to dig up dirt on other nations which you can then use as justification for war. Or if you don't find anything you can make stuff up. You can read it here:

http://mission-president.blogspot.com/

It's in French, so i had to use babel fish to translate it, but i specifically remember reading about it there. But from what i've read so far this game seems like it's going to fucking own everything. It's like a cross between superpower 2 and supreme ruler 2010. I'm getting a hard on just thinking about it Very Happy

Probably my fucked up translation but it seems to be available from the 16th March. Not quite sure in what languages (multi language??) and not sure in what format (cd, dvd, digital download) but it seems to be being released very soon. Hope so anyway. It's a shame superpower and superpower 2 were both crap because I think it's a good genre for a game. Cool

Well i e-mailed them a few months ago and they said they'll be releasing the English version in April at the earliest. They currently only have a publisher for the French version, and are still looking for enlish publishers. Hopefully though, the French version will have its text in easily edited files so that anyone can translate them using online translators. Then someone would just have to clean up all the spelling and gramatical errors and we're all set. I remember that Singles 1 had English text files on the CD of the German version by souldrinker, that you could copy into the game directory to make it English. Hopefully it'll be the same here.

Just to keep those who are interrested in this game updated - it does seem as though this has been released and there's even a patch for it (1.002) that seems to add some new missins or something along those lines. Check out the game commentary here http://www.mission-president.blogspot.com/

I think it's only available in download format so far - I'm not sure about a cd/dvd release. Hope to see a scene release soon though. Smile

Yes, the French version has been released. Since i couldn't wait for the English version to be released i bought the French version yesterday, and guess what? Not only did those cocksuckers at Mindscape not send me a working link (the link in the email was simply http:///) but once i got the link from another person who bought it and was kind enough to share the link my serial didn't work! But you know what worked flawlessly? The deduction of €40 from my bank account! Yeah, i bet they took extra care to make sure THAT worked!!!!

So for all you friendly nforce people, please do me a favour and hammer the shit out of their download server and download the game from this link (don't worry mods, this isn't illegal. You still need a working serial to play it).

You know, this whole thing about my serial that i PAID for not working wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't the weekend. If this had happened during a weekday, i would have probably recieved a working serial within a few hours of mailing their customer support, but since it's the fucking WEEKEND i have to wait until monday! Fucking shit fuck piss cocksucking whore faggot!

No offence, but are you seriously so lazy that you can't even read a few sentences? I already said in my last two posts that my serial doesn't work, and neither does anyone elses. Mindscape completely fucked up. Nobody who bought the downloadable version got a working serial.

Oh, and from what i can tell, the game is completely riddled with bugs, according to the people who bought the CD version, which doesn't need a serial. I think mindscape rushed it to coincide with the French elections, which i believe are being held this month. So not only did they not manage to send out working serials OR download links to people who PAYED for their worthless shit, but they apparently also think it's more important to cash in some extra hype points by releasing a political game right at election time, rather than give the developers time to actually FINISH the game. They're lucky i don't live in a country where they have offices, or i'd sue their fucking asses for fraud and false advertizing! They advertise on their site for a non working product and they take take your money without delivering the product. Fucking greedy capitalist swine!!! Why the fuck is shit like this allowed to slide? If they were making yachts, diamond jewelery, mink furs, sports cars, mansions, or private jets and they delivered the same shitty service, you can bet your ass those greedy fucking filthy, rich, white, upper class, cocksucker politicians would do something about it in a hurry, because they need their worthless luxuries, the fucking douchebags! But when it's a product that only the "mere" mortals like myself care about, they let anything slide!

France needs to start dusting off their guillotines!!!!!
