Hi I'm using Windows Media Center to watch a lot of downloads on my 360. I just got a new LCD TV and figured i would try to get some HD content to try out my new TV. So far I've figured out how to convert TS files to mpeg2 with now problems. But I'm having problems with MKV files. I posted same kind of topic in the encoders heaven forum and received help finding a program to convert my files. However I now run into the problem that it will take 1 and Half hours to convert a 20 minute file. I can convert a movie and burn to DVD in less time. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it and I'm staying away from MKV files from now on.

Use a transcoder? You may need to install Windows MCE but its worth it for the ease of use.

http://runtime360.com/blog/ - requires MCE
http://tversity.blogspot.com/2006/11/wmv-transcoding-for-xbox-360-is-here.html - Doesn't need MCE

I have windows MCE and the transcode 360 program running but so far it doesn't want to work for me. And I got frustrated and deleted the files off my hard drive. So I couldn't drive myself crazy with it anymore but now I'm getting a new release in MKV format and will try again to get it working. If I still can't once I have a file to work with I will come back for more help.

Bloodomen will that program do a movie say 2 hr file into a 2hr avi or mpeg?

err best thing to do is get a long dvi/vga cable. feed you tv directly from your PC you will have much more luck. xbox 360 is an awesome console (the best there is) but its pretty lackin when it comes to media playback.

I tryed all the above methods of converting/transcoding and all that shit it it turnd out not to be worth the effort. now i just use a old laptop connected to my tv and network to watch my hidef content without any dicking arround.
