Can someone list me some medieval/fantasy movies that got released in the last half of year or so, maybe even more, like in the last year? I don't care how good or bad they were, I'll decide what I like and what I don't, as I have a very weird taste in movies. I want to see what I've missed as there are times (very long times actually) when I don't watch movies or watch very few. Also, if you can list some of those movies that are coming out soon too.

Well, I posted this in that other thread and didn't get much help there and someone recommended me to make a thread for this so here it is. I'm making this thread mainly for that, but feel free to post about any movie of this type if you want, maybe we'll get to talk about these movies this way too. Also, somone said about Black Plague in the other thread. I think he meant Black Death and yeah, I liked that movie, it was quite enjoyable. It was similar to Season of the Witch (which turned out to be quite bad), but it managed to be a lot better, in my opinion.

Just watched The Eagle and I really liked it. It was pretty much on the same level as Centurion which I also liked. If movies are at least on this level it means they are really enjoyable, for me I mean. Also, I watched Game of Thrones and it was definately one of the best serials, waiting for the second season now... Anyway, any more movies like this? I initially wanted to see what did I lost in the last year or so, but feel free to mention older movies too.

I've seen Black Death, quite a nice movie, but I already said this... you would have seen that if you read the first post Smile. "Ironclad" looks interesting, will surely watch that. From what I see Vladimir Kulich also has a role in this move... which reminds me: one of my favourite movies of all time is this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120657/ Also, related to that movie, check one of the best music videos on the internet:

Still waiting for more titles of this type of movies...

Oh yeah, being such a huge fan of dragons, DragonHeart ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116136/ ) is also one of my favourite movies and I consider it pretty much the best movie with dragons.

No problem. There's also a second DragonHeart movie called DragonHeart: A New Beginning and it's worse, way worse actually, but it was worth a watch (or probably not for others...). It's also a movie for children if I recall correctly so that might also explain why the movie is like that... Anyway:

Buliwyf: 'Lo, there do I see my father. 'Lo, there do I see...
Herger the Joyous: My mother, and my sisters, and my brothers.
Buliwyf: 'Lo, there do I see...
Herger the Joyous: The line of my people...
Edgtho the Silent: Back to the beginning.
Weath the Musician: 'Lo, they do call to me.
Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan: They bid me take my place among them.
Buliwyf: In the halls of Valhalla...
Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan: Where the brave...
Herger the Joyous: May live...
Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan: ...forever.

Gotta' love this!

Oh and you "have" to take a look at the Solomon Kane movie. Even though it didn't have the highest production value it was quite epic imho. Liked it very much.

Seen both. Solomon Kane was quite interesting, yeah. Beowulf & Grendel is really underrated, only found out about it last year I think. It was good, I really liked it, but better than The 13th Warrior? Not for me, no.

In that case, I would also like to suggest The Matrix, Star Wars and Star Trek. Laughing

Well, I've seen Ironclad and it wasn't anything special, but it wasn't bad either. I really loved the soundtrack actually and the acting seemed quite fine to me.

I've also watched Age of the Dragons, finally after having it so much time on my HDD and it wasn't really that bad as I first thought it would be. It was quite an interesting take on "Moby Dick".

What else... do you guys know the russian movie Wolfhound ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416316/ )? I watched it a long time ago and I liked it, wasn't expecting much to be honest, but it was really enjoyable, at least for me...

Oh yeah, did you guys download the 720p release of The 13th Warrior? It's fucking nice to finally have this movie in such a good quality.

Way to many bad movies - why the hell can´t they make a medieval movie where we get to watch a group of adventurers a la Dragonlance.
Always we get this lame hero, and any sidekicks die off like token black guys in 90ties movies Sad

Give me Star Wars in medieval times and its a win.

Did anyone see Krabat and the Legend of the Satanic Mill?

A little preview: http://www.rpgwatch.com/show/info?infoid=5

IMDb page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0772181/

It came out in 2008 initially, but I just found out about it because of a contest at RPGWatch. It seems it's been/it'll be released just today in UK.

Good thread, there are some movies I missed. While the movies listed above are far from awesome, they are quite enjoyable. The one to rule them all is Braveheart imo, but it is quite old.

DarkRohirrim let us know what you think about Krabat after you've watched it.

Yeah, that's the thing with most of these movies, they are not the most well done movies, but they're extremely enjoyable. The other thing is, I really love the medieval times. Black Death was by far one of the most enjoyable movies of this type that have been released lately. I'll post my short opinion about Krabat after I'll watch it, don't you worry.

It's a German movie. I'm a little afraid it won't be that athmospheric in English. Since most of German movies suck ass, this one is a exception.

But it's more about symbolism. Of life, death and love and about black magic.

And this is exactly why the movie is so damn great. I just watched it, really loved the movie. I watched the original german version with subtitles in romanian since the release was hardsubbed. It wasn't bad like that. About the movie, I'm not good at giving many details... it has very little to no action, so don't expect an action movie. Expect what m3th0d2008 said, because that's exactly what it is. It's very well done though, great atmosphere, great soundtrack, some great scenes with really nice views (it could compete with LotR when it comes to this actually). What else... I really liked the way the story was told and the plot in general. Also, Krabat at the end of the movie resembles a bit a young version of the Nameless Hero from the Gothic games Laughing.

Next to watch: Valhalla Rising

I heard it's really good once you understand the movie, because it is harder to understand, being more of a philosophical movie or how to call it, not an action movie at all (that's what you'd expect with a title like that I suppose).

It has some good visuals (and great gore, hehe), but all in all it's a very slow and introspective movie. A lot of people who expected more action and a more approachable tone were disappointed, but I'd watch it for the scenery alone already (scottish highlands ftw!) - it's not a long movie after all.
